Rolling cache file is not created, cannot change rolling cache limit or path

Fresh windows 11 install, literally 1 hour old. I install steam and msfs 2024, the game launches and a rolling cache file is never created, the rolling cache limit says 0.0 and when i try to change it it says rolling cache path is invalid. If i create a new folder somewhere else, point the rolling cache to that new folder and set the limit to 16gb, save and exit the sim, relaunch and when im back in it has reverted to default location which is c drive roaming msfs 2024 and resets back to 0.0 and again, NO ROLLING CACHE FILE EXISTS ON THE SYSTEM.

Where is “somewhere else”? Win 11 is cautious about user access to certain drives/folders.

Do you have administrator rights?

Somewhere else means literally anywhere else, i have full admin rights. This happened on windows 10 as well

Mine is a bit different. MSFS2024 is on drive C, clean new install, i can’t choose any folder, “This PC” is not functioning so won’t let me access to any main drives and create folders. I didn’t test changing size, i will test it later. win11 25H2

Which version of the sim are you using?

Currently SU3

same thing on SU4 beta. how many months/years do i need to wait before the game becomes usable? can you fix the game so i can actually reenable the rolling cache or what???

Have you tried to let game create a default one (default size and location) first? I mean: launch game first to let it create the default file, quit game and then after the second launch change things to your desired size and path. Usually game saves new settings upon exit not after launching.

After having set your custom settings you may need to manually delete the default rolling cache file that stays at default location. If I´m not wrong this file is not deleted when setting a new custom path.

Cheers

the file is not being created, i literally deleted my entire windows 10 operating system and installed windows 11 fresh, and after installing msfs 2024 it still did not create a rolling cache file.

I wonder if something in your cloud profile is keeping your rolling cache folder at that size.
I would suspect the rolling cache size would be something that would be saved.
If so, a reinstall, as you noted, would reinstall with the same setting.

This will remove all your settings, but it may be worth the try.

It doesn’t matter if it’s not creating it because in fact it won’t update it until you quit. Did you run game as I suggested? Run, quit, run for a second time, do your changes there and quit for a second time for your changes to be applied.

Cheers

Thanks, after nuking the steam cloud save folder it is now creating a rolling cache file again.

Nice to see that you got it straightened out!

The process that works for me is:

Quit sim

Delete Rolling Cache file

Run sim, default of 16gb RC is created

Goto options and resize RC to 128gb

If that fails, restart sim, goto options and regenerate the rc.

Edit: I have the store version.
