Rolling chairs and rudder pedals

On Amazon real cheap: Bell Glides Replacement Office Chair or Stool Swivel Caster Wheels to Fixed Stationary Castors, Low Profile Bell Glides with Soft Rubber Bottom Instead of Self Felt Pads.

I bought those too but everytime I got up from the chair the casters will get off the pad and it was a pain to make all five caster fit in the little cavity (I have a heavy chair). I did find a use for those: glued them to the bottom of my Thrustmaster Rudder Pedals and they no longer move on my wood floors.
I have these for my chair:

I’ve been driving, and now flying, with my G27 pedals which have a brake which is very stiff indeed (the pedals are braced to stop them moving). My wheeled chair stays pretty well in place as I have always had it sat on one of those commercial ‘dust’ mats:

.

I changed my wheels to these. 2 of the 5 have brakes. That keeps the chair stationary but still allows me to roll around if I need to.

I just drop an old cushion behind the rearward wheels. Just have to be careful when you get up as you can’t push the chair back, and make sure you don’t trip over the cushion

This is my solution.

It’s a shelf from Ikea with the middle part cut out.

This solves two problems. The chair moving and the rudder pedals themselves moving.

I also lock the tilt in my chair and lower it a bit before “flying”.

Good grief, just put the two rear castors in a pair of trainers.

You need an aircraft wheel chocks.

What about a door stop wedge, just put it under one of wheels as long as it’s positioned to the rear of you it works really well and is dead cheap, I use one myself.

Well whatever works and is cheap is a good solution

I use a plastic desk mat and drill 3 holes into it for the 3 front wheels to fall into. It holds the chair just enough to use the pedals.

My flight rig is on a Next Level Racing stand. I use 2 bungees to attach my chair to the rig. No more rolling away.

My 5 wheeled task chair sits on carpet. To stop it from moving, I get the chair into position sideways. The castors are much more difficult to move side on, and this works really well.

Carpet.

And a few extra characters so I can just post the word, “Carpet”

I use one of those rubber like mats used for when standing a long time in a workshop, it’s kind of a lattice with holes through it, it provides grip above and below and so reduces unintended movement.

for me it’s not just the wheels. The chair swivel screws me up.

Yes that’s exactly what I’ve found too. Even when the chair is secured it still swivels. I’ve used the locking wheel casters but then the chair still swivels which is very annoying. I’m now getting rid of rudder pedals altogether as I’ve found the sim to be more enjoyable without. If you use the desk for other things like I do then it doesn’t make sense to configure it purely for flight simming. At the end of the day we’re sitting at our desks on a PC, not flying for real. I get that some people want it as realistic as possible but FS2020 doesn’t even simulate adverse yaw properly anyway so we cannot fully get the realism even with having pedals.

Don’t get me wrong I like to have quality hardware to make it feel as real as possible. But the issue with the chair moving just ruins the immersion for me.

You can try the VKB rudder, you have not to push with your leg but only flex your feet. Like the break on the saitek.

Yes, remove the wheels!

Instead of a plastic floor protector I put down a ■■■■■■ piece of rug that I got from a local carpet store. It’s thick enough that the chair does move when I actuate the rudders. What rudder pedals do you have? You Can adjust the tension on the Saiteks that I’ve had for probably 15 years.
