Roman Design | Vancouver Island Heliports and Seaplane Bases scenery pack | Discussion

Continuing the discussion from [RELEASE] Vancouver Island Heliports and Seaplane Bases | Roman Design:

It looks really really great.

@RomanDesign
May I ask, what are your plans for this when 2024 releases?

I mean, will you ensure its compatibility? As a free update if necessary?

What with the stated “all helipads and sea plane bases worldwide” it might create some issues. Of course this scenery is far more detailed than anything we will get in the new base game and I really would like to buy this now, but I guess many people are like me and a bit nervous of spending anything more with the new game being here in a few months time and all the talk of helipads being included.

I intend to release an update when MSFS 2024 is out, as with all my sceneries. I will definitely make sure it’s fully compatible and causes no conflicts. I will also try to implement new MS2024 features, if possible. There may be some helicopter-specific features in the new SDK, maybe something career-oriented or mission-oriented. Asobo mentioned that animated people with paths might be available. For now, all I have to go by is the Asobo mention that in general, 2020 sceneries will be compatible. So my sceneries should just work out of the box in MSFS2024. Asobo outlined the process of testing and approval for the new 2024 marketplace, which I will go through as soon as it’s available to developers. This will ensure full compatibility, and also put a “2024” tag on my sceneries in the marketplace, which I obviously want.

There will be an option to release the update for free or have a small upgrade fee. I will have to decide on it when I know how much work is required to make it compatible and what improvements it can have compared to the 2020 version. Most likely it will be a free update unless a lot of work is needed to adapt it to MSFS2024. I don’t anticipate that it’s going to be much work.

Most likely there won’t be a problem. All existing helipads and heliports in my scenery are marked with their ICAO designations. The areas are also marked with “exclusion polygons”. That means they override built-in default scenery if it exists. So even if MSFS2024 would have some of my locations as generic helipads, they should be overridden with my custom scenery.

Same seaplane bases or “water aerodromes” were included in default form in MSFS, but are overridden in the same manner.

Some helipads that I created do not have a published real-world ICAO ID. Those could cause a conflict, but most likely they won’t be included in MSFS2024 as well, precisely because they are not in published databases.

I love this for msfs2020 but can not get it to load on msfs2024, maybe it is not compatible?
