RTX 2060 6GB VRAM usage in MSFS?

Hi guys, anyone running a RTX 2060 6GB in MSFS at 1080p? What is the VRAM usage? Any VRAM bottleneck?

Mind you that my monitor is 2560X1080p (ultrawide), so it is close to 2K.

The RTX 3060 (Ti) might arrive too expensive for me (the dollar exchange is a killer right now), so I might get a regular 2060 in a sale or something.

Any feedback is appreciated. Note: I have no interest in AMD cards.

Hi there,

Have a RTX 2060 (not super) with 6GB of VRAM, it use ~80/90% memory so 5 to 5.5 GB.
On a 2560x1440 res I can reach permanent 30 FPS and have 45 in light areas with clear sky.
If clouds are most present it can go down at 20 to 25 FPS.
My CPU is weak but seems sufficient (Ryzen 1600X @ 3.8 Ghz).

I think RTX 2060 is not bad to fly for the moment.

Oh, thanks a lot! So on my 2560X1080p the usage should be even less. And yeah, with sales and rebates we can find some good deals on the 2060, I was just not sure if MSFS would top the VRAM on my system.

Thanks a lot again!

Very similar for me, 2060 non-super on Ultrawide 3440 x 1440. 25-35 with high and some ultra settings (for clouds) and VRAM use is also 5 to 5.5 GB. ( with Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.175 Ghz)

Just had a try to show you my specs & results :

Cool, thanks a lot guys. The VRAM usage will not be a factor in this case.

Cheers!

You seem pretty CPU limited when looking at the core usage max values (100% on several cores)

No… 100% CPU is max not actual… I have balanced 100% CPU/GPU limited, at the moment of the screenshot I’m not CPU limited, just GPU limited… I can (IMHO) reach 100% limit on CPU or GPU when other is not.

In facts, I just found (for me) a balanced usage of both I think… Anyway, I think I can not have better with this config

…But I can be wrong.

Ideally you want your GPU at 100% usage, is it capped by a framerate limit of something less than 60 or is it just like this without any limiters

I have not limited FPS, just boosted from 3.6 to 3.8 Ghz my CPU, that’s all.
I think 30 to 35 FPS in general is not too bad, if I can have more so… but I think it’s not bad at all.

Just keep in mind that VRAM allocation and VRAM usage are two different things. Many applications allocate lot of VRAM but just use a part of it.

Yeah MSFS at 4K allocated 9GBs on my 3080, but only uses like 7-8 usually.

Yes indeed, this is what I came here to post.

You can check the actual VRAM usage in MSFS by enabling developer tools and checking the FPS display. It has VRAM usage down at the bottom.

Checking in third-party software such as MSI Afterburner will show how much the game has allocated, which is usually more than what it actually needs.

It’s often allocating pretty much everything (9.1 GBs out of 10GBs) while only using around 7-8 GBs

I’m also running an RTX 2060 with similar usage as others. That video card works just fine.

I have a 2060 and run 1080p in ULTRA and works like a charm. My CPU is a Ryzen 5 3600 and I have 32GB 3,200mhz RAM.

I’m surprised that you get good FPS.

I have an i7-10875H (Hyperhreading turned off, 16 GB RAM) with an eGPU with a RTX 2060 in it.

I fly usually on HIGH on 1080p and my FPS is between 10 and 25 (only tested on A320neo). Especially when flying close to EDDF or other big airports the FPS goes down dramatically.

Most of the time I’m limited by the GPU, from time to time limited by the Mainthread.

Is there anyone with a similar setup? I’m really wondering why I’m getting such a bad FPS.

I manage to get 30+ fps on 1080p with settings on ULTRA with airliners in modeled airports, with plenty of AI traffic.

Ideally the sim needs 8gb of vram to run and that is the bare minimum for res like 1440p even that is causing issues on 2k.6gb is ok on 1080p.I think just like most flight sims it uses what ever vram your card has.Mine uses 6 to 7.5 most of the time.

Umm, I use an RTX2060 with 6GB on a 4K monitor with High settings. Runs fine for me. Not stellar FPS (around 25) but nice and steady and consistent and it looks great.
