RTX 3070 - If you can get it - its awesome

This is just a general post for people who might have been looking to get an RX6800 and missed out.

I was absolutely certain the 6800 was the card I was after, 16Gb of VRAM being a reason amoung many. Didnt really consider the RTX3070 until stock for the AMD vaporised and I thought even after restocks its probably going to be late this year early 2021 before I could get an RX card.

An opportunity came up to get a 3070, so decided to buy it. To confirm

the 3070 kicks all sorts of ■■■, absolutely loving runing FS at ultra everything - not without lower frames here and there before people get to shouty, but its a great card. Dont regret the buy for one second.

Alot of the youtube reviews are saying negative stuff about the 3070 vs the RX 6800 and for good reason, so as someone who is using it in the wild, just wanted to put out there that Im finding the card to be joe kickass. so dont hesitate if you have a chance to pick one up.

I also understand that in a lot of places getting these cards is just crazy hard, this is not a brag post or anything like that. Just wanted to put it out there if you’re someone like me who wasnt really sold on the 3070 - Its running FS like a champ and a great card in its own right vs the 6800.

For reference I’ve got:

Ryzen 5 3600 (not over clocked)
32 Gb Ram - 3200mhz
Asrock B450 board

Hi tommynzer
Happy to hear that you are pleased with purchase. Perhaps you could provide more informative information so that users can assess the performance improvement they could expect with an RTX3070. i.e. state your old graphic card, show pics of your settings and pics showing the FPS (developer mode) over some big cities.

Same thing for the 3080!

I honestly find myself mostly CPU limited (especially in airliners) but when in GA aircraft/GPU limited, it’s just so perfect. I find myself nearing 60 fps (55 in GA aircraft) at 1440p with 150 render scaling (which is just 4K). I upgraded from a temporary RX 580, which obviously struggled at 1440p High settings. Over big cities I’m sadly CPU limited so hopefully optimizations coming soon will really unlock the full experience. Tokyo in the C152 at 4K is playable (30 fps) but still CPU limited.

Specs: Ryzen 7 3700X (PBO), 32GB RAM @ 3000 MHz, B550 Tomahawk.

Honestly though, in MSFS 8GB is enough, even for 4K in most situations. The whole “10GBs isn’t enough” thing for the 3080 is very much overblown, it’s definitely enough right now in my experience. Same thing for the 3070 in my opinion.

The 3070 is a great card for the price! I’d buy it over the 6800 especially considering MSFS may have raytracing, which will give it a big advantage

People who buy Radeons will end up spending as much time playing drivers as the games themselves. Not worth it, get what works. Que the rabid AMD fans (there are so many too).

While AMD did have drivers issues for the first two months after the release of the 5700XT GPU’s, their drivers have been rock solid after that (I bought the 5700XT around 3 or 4 months after it was released).

From all the coverage I’ve seen about the 6000 series, there has been 0 mention about driver issues from any of the reputable third party benchmarkers I’ve seen (I’m 100% sure if there were driver issues, Gamers Nexus for instance would have pointed them out).

The youtubers just run the benchmarks and most of their fanbase are AMD fanboys so no wonder they cater to that crowd. It’s the same crowd that the loud and over-the-top AMD marketing machine is geared towards.

All AMD does is makes sure the benchmarks complete and big numbers pop up. However don’t count on these streaming youtuber influencer salesmen to tell you about usage issues that crop up all the time. Plenty of reports of 6800xt keeping their owners busy.

Not touching these with 10 foot pole.

You know what, you’re sounding an awful lot like an NVidia fanboy. Looks like you’ve become what you despise

Calling Gamers Nexus a fanboy of any sort just shows you haven’t really delved into anything they’ve done in recent years.

do you operate an AMD?

That’s so awesome you are a software engineer? Do you have a YouTube channel we can see ? I would be totally interested in your educated theory’s. I always listened to logic , but as a software engineer , I like to see the facts and data before making an educated decision , furthermore ensuring that it does not cause misleads in the threads. We all know that social media can have alot of well… options without foundations. I am interested in what data you have to secure your theory. Thank you for your time and Happy New Year !

Hi guys, I’m new here and I bought FS2020 and after the first very negative impact I am satisfied with the result and the wonders that this simulator does!
i play with rift s i5 9600k oc 5ghz on all cores, 32gb ram 3200 and a 3070 zotac oc editin … i worked hard to get everything working fine but now i fly to rome and new york almost perfectly with no noticeable issues at medium high settings … I noticed that if you have a 144hz monitor and with g-sync set to 60hz and turning off g-sync the game vs much smoother!

I can agree. I had a GTX 1080 before and got my hands on an RTX 3070 and it really is a great improvement. I went from 40fps at high settings to 50fps on ultra settings, sometimes I even get up to 70fps when not CPU limited. I am playing at 1440p btw.

Detailed system specs:
i7 9700K @4.9GHz allcore
32GB 3200MHz RAM
Asus RTX 3070 TUF OC @1995MHz @950mV
1440p 165hz G-Sync monitor
