In a Benchmarking video I saw both Radeon 6800 XT and RTX 3080 did 53 FPS in FS 2020 at 1080p ultra.
So how the … can you achieve 50 FPS on a 980 Ti?
Then a RTX 2060 should do very ok…
I don’t want to doubt you - but I can’t help it.
Cheers

At 1080p you’re most likely to be bottlenecked by your CPU. I’m a little surprised at a 980Ti managing 50fps over NY, but we don’t know what other settings were enabled, so it’s certainly possible at that low resolution,
Feel free to doubt me, but at 1080p I was limited by main thread, not GPU.
When I upped my res to w1440p, I became GPU-limited.
It’s been a few months since then but in general most graphics settings were on ultra, scaling 100%, DLAA, No multiplayer or AI. DLAA was causing some pixelated shadows but I can live with that.
There have been quite a few sim updates since then, many of them changing performance, so can’t really replicate it again.
Thank you for your fast response.
I just went to this forum for the first time today because I hope to buy a 6800XT today.
(silly wish - I know)
In April or May I sold my RTX 2070 in anticipation of a new generation.
Frustrated a few days before the 3080 launch I bought a second hand RTX2060.
Recently I even sold my Ryzen 5 3600 as I thought it would be easier to get a 5600X - ha.
So now I am stuck with an old laptop - waiting…
I want the FS 2020 to look great, so I can visit places in the only way possible.
I can save quite a bit of money If my RTX 2060 is good enough.
And I have a twin seat Gyrocopter waiting for me to get my license.
So I’m also waiting for someone to create a gyro, preferably looking like a MTO Sport(like mine).
Cheers

It all really depends on the resolution you’re playing at. 6800XT is overkill unless you’re at 1440p or 4K resolution. The CPU is probably the most important thing for fast frame rates in MSFS right now.
I’m running a 6800XT at 4K which seems to be working well, though I have dropped the render scaling to 80 to gain some extra fps.
I recently bought a Lenovo 34" Ultrawide with 3440 x 1440, so it’s close to 4k.
It’s a Freesync monitor, so AMD might be best. I bought it for two reasons:
1: To run MS Flightsim.
2: The usual upgrade itch, that has to be scratched.
But it looks like the 3080 is the best card at 4k. So the 16 Gb on the 6800XT
seems to be unneccessary at the moment. I guess the best AMD processor
will be the 5600x. As I won’t pay through the nose to mostly just get more cores…

The only game/sim that I’ve seen use more than 10GB of VRAM is DCS World.
The 3080 will outperform the 6800XT at 4K, but if you’re getting an AMD processor then their won’t be much in it between the cards, as the 6800XT will gain 5-10% when paired with an AMD CPU, also the 6800XT is a little cheaper.
Hi Nick.
I was lucky enough to even get a 6800 card. Nothing is available ATM.
And I have been looking forward to fly to places I can’t visit IRL.
I had to buy the DVD version, because my ISP connection is slow.
But having to use a “Game Disc” every time I want to play,
that is so annoying and old fashioned…
So annoyed, I am thinking about leaving this flight sim! How dare they?
Cheers
Erik
As soon as connect, you pretty much have to re-download the whole game because theDVD version is out of date.
Yes, there was a large download - but “only” about 45 Gb…
But seriously, I am so pi**ed about having to use a game disc - back to the 90’s…
With the announcement that XBOX and therefore DX12 will be coming in the summer of 2021. I am defiantly going to stick with my R5 2600x and RTX 2060X until then.
After the current crop of CPUs and GPUs on the market at that time are bench marked i can make a final decision.
Of course benchmarks like these are of limited use because they apply to specific situations, but it’s nice to see some actual numbers for a direct comparison.

Here are two more from Hardware Unboxed. The RX 6800 XT is identical to the RTX 3080 at 1440p, with a frame or two more fps, falling behind at 4K. Still playable though, a slight drop in render scaling or the new AMD’s version of DLSS would make it pretty much the same. Right now I’d grab either card if you can find one at a reasonable price.
I have a RTX3080 with a ryzen3700x and 32 go ram, I run on average at 100 110 fps et 60 to 70 fps in dense places
If you do not intend to play in 4k I recommend you to go for a RTX 3070 or a used 2080ti, those cards are good enough to run the game at Ultra 2k.
