RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT?

I would strongly suggest getting a 1440p monitor.Any of the two cards will last a while on that resolution as the 3080 was made really for 4k.Made the jump from 1080p to 1440p and the difference is quite astonishing. Intruments appear crisper, the entire sim appears more crisp.1440p ultrawide especially is worth it

With my previous monitor, I was running FS2020 at FHD 1080p on an 980Ti and had 50 frames over NY on ultra. Now the same card is driving my UWQHD monitor.
Just to make you think how much muneyyy you’ll be wasting if you run 3080 at 1080p.

For that reason i said “Thinking in future” , now i have a 1080p HD monitor, but soon i can get a new one and i cant buy everything at the same time  . right now i have a i7 - 9700K , ssd 1tb and 32GB DDR4

i understand your point  , and in future maybe near future i will get a better monitor no doubt. But my main question is if 10GB of VRAM is enough for years to support new games, i like to play everything at ultra settings. Because in another hand we have RX 6800 XT 16GB … those 16Gbs … and i saw in youtube videos about 6800 xt vs 3080 and 6800 seems have better performance, but i dont know how they have tests with rx 6800 xt if that card is not out yet…is maybe unreal tests no?

Ahhh i was forgeting, but in another hand we also have new RTX 3080 Ti 20GB …
So the RTX 3080 10GB is worth or ? This is not an easy decision …

All we’re trying to tell you there is no point getting an expensive card whether that being AMD or Nvidia if you decide to stay on 1080p.My other advice with the help you get there you can do a part by doing some research also outside the forums.

And here I am, with just a Ryzen 1800, gtx1080 (original, not ti), and running at 4k on primary monitor with high end settings, and have map and ATC on second 1080p monitor with LNM also running. And still being able to comfortably play it!

Enjoy the game without worrying too much about +/- 1 FPS. It really does not need 60fps to be playable, even 20 can be very playable.

I think this thread needs to be renamed to “graphics card upgrade talk” since it literally contains just 3 posts talking about the upcoming patch.

Right now the RTX3080 doesn’t bring any meaningful performance improvement, there is even a thread titled “Don’t buy a RTX3080” here. So wait for DX12 and the first feedbacks with this card before buying one (for MSFS anyway).

That’s because the game is mainly CPU limited. Get the latest Ryzen with 12 virtual cores instead and 32Gb of RAM. And yes, Asobo is working on improving CPU performance.

edit: as someone else said, your current setup is perfectly fine. Get the most out of it and stop worrying, just fly, explore the world and forget about FPS.

No, it won’t help.

Well, during the last q&a they said that we should see around 6-10 fps increase, but that is for people who are cpu limited by main thread, so if you have high end gpu, and your gpu load is around 70-80%, you could see those improvements, for everyone else with weaker gpu, you’ll maybe see few fps improvements on hand crafter airports. I’m mostly interested to see if it’s gonna help with microstutters, because in theory it should, most stutters happen during takeoff and landings when gpu load starts to drop and sim becames more cpu limited. I run 3800x with SMT off, maybe after this update i’ll try with SMT on.

There is only a 10GB card. The 20GB and 16GB cards have been cancelled.

And there is already a discussion thread on patch 6:

I’m running on a 55" LG 55UN-7300 on my desk that I got a Costco for $379 I think it was, and I’m loving it. Not the highest quality 4K TV in the world, but it works great with my system and I’m super happy with it (kind of hard to see what’s up in that top left corner cause it’s so far away, tho, haha). Basically a lifesize cockpit view. And that’s with 4790K with 16GB and a 2070Super. I’m running mostly Ultra, I haven’t bothered to check my FPS, all I care about is smooth flight, which is what I get, even in NYC.

Another really great thing I’ve found with a 4K monitor is there’s so much room for windows when editing or browsing… It’s basically like have 4 monitors of space.

I’d also consider getting a second 1TB SSD, make sure it’s a rocket with I forget what specs, as a lot of the SSD cards out there, even the really popular ones, do not support the high transfer rates that the Rocket does, and they cost more(???). I think I paid like $115 for them a year and a half ago. I have a super old MB and it doesn’t support the fastest speeds from it’s M2 slot, but I used that for the OS and other programs, then I put MSFS on my D drive, so I’ve got tons of space for it. For that second 1TB SSD, I bought a PCI16 adapter card for it, and it works great in my open PCI16 slot and supports the top speed of the SSD. (the 2070 Super uses the other.)

Unfortunately that thread has turned into a discussion about hardware, rather than the update.

Everyone, please, read the title and keep this thread on track.

That’s good to hear. I am on a pre-order waiting list for a 3080 to drive my 3960x1200 resolution ultra-wide monitor which should run nicely based on your experience with the card.

Thank you for your answer man, love it

Judging by some early Forza benchmarks, I think the AMD 6000 series might perform better than the Nvidia 3000 series on MSFS. MSFS uses a modified Turn 10 engine so I think it’s the closest proxy we have currently. Of course, CPU bottlenecks will remain a major issue unless Asobo does some fixing.

I don’t know why some people say the 3080 doesn’t improve much.

I went from a 2070 Super to a 3080 and now I get mainly 60fps in most places, and I also went from a mix of medium / high settings on the 2070 to all Ultra on the 3080. Sure the major cities will still drop the FPS into the 40’s though.

Oh, and I run at 2K if anyone is curious.

6800xt is better choice than a 3080 according to Zen3 tests, but you are using intel 9700K and you can even go for 3070ti.
Note: If 3080 is 50$ cheaper than 6800xt i would say 3080  better to wait reviews.

I do not care about DLSS as far as i know developers send Screenshots to nvidia for it. (correct me if i am wrong).
Ray tracing on the other hand also DX12 feature and new consoles have that feature (which use customized zen2). I am not so hyped to wait Ray Tracing implementation to FS2020 to buy a GPU.

My Personal route which you did not ask  i will wait for 3080ti which supposed to be announced in December and decide 3080ti or 6800xt or 6900xtx or 3090.

Today, the 3080 because the 6800 has not been released.

On 11/18 we could start to see real world benchmarks and a more informed decision can be made.
