RTX 3080 vs 3080ti vs 3090 for FS2020

(post deleted by author)

Agreed, getting the 3090 (have one as wellā€¦) for performance isnā€™t a good value. The only place where the 3090 shines for MSFS is higher VRAM capacity can reduce stutters and framerate spikes.

My 3080 (Gigabyte) runs at around 60C in FS2020 in 2D and VR at 100% GPU load.

Thanks. So basically 3080 to max everything in 2K (1440), 3080ti to max everything in 4K, or 3090 to max everything in VR. Just read that 30X0 Supers were coming early next year - may see what that brings at what price. Unless my current rig dies, I was planning to wait at least until 12th gen intel and Win 11 is released.

Would love a 16GB 3080 or 3080ti.

i was ready to upgrade to 3090 before seen some tests for my resolution 3440x1440 for cyberpank. so in any way i will not drop any cent to 3090, i donā€™t use vr, so i good with 2080ti from it was born in 2018 with same new born guy 9700k, so before next full upgrade in any way today, when one year stay from 13th gen intel i guess and new rtx nvidia, no way

Iā€™ve got mine locked at 30ā€¦Vsync enabledā€¦I seem to be getting the best FPS consistency at this settingā€¦very smoothā€¦I am in the process of re installing, so Iā€™ll have a go at your settingsā€¦
Might help, as I undock the PFD and ND to a third monitor, admittedly I do have a drop in FPS when coming into land at a busy airportā€¦so I generally cancel the undocking, which returns my FPS to 30

This needs to clarify what temp you like to know.
Here evga 3090xt ultra uc/ov to 0,875mV/1875Mhz runs mid 60s celsius.

But the more important temps to monitor are hotspot and vram junction temps. This will go well above the 80s, vram over 90 rarely with addon backplate cooler, without the card runs into thermal limit @110 celsius and start to throttle. This is only 3090, the 3080 have no ram at the back.

Which GPU do you have and what settings and resolution do you run at?

This is good to know, so 3090 more susceptible to hot vram vs either 3080 or 3080ti?

2080ti very good GPU. If I had a 2080ti, Iā€™d wait until 4080/4090 release. I only have a 1070.

Yes, but thatā€™s because the 3090 has VRAM modules on the backside in addition to the front. On most cards, thereā€™s no heatsink on the back - maybe a metal backplate on the better cards, which helps to a degree.

The hot GDDR6x memory on the 3090 is usually a problem for mining, not gaming. Itā€™s also highly dependent on the manufacturer. My Asus TUF 3090 memory junction temps never get above 86c during gaming. I know the FE cards tend to run quite hotter.

Ryzan 9 5900xā€¦boost up to 4.8Ghzā€¦.using a 55ā€ 4K TV as a monitor.
I run at 100% resolutionā€¦.though at 90% you have a hard time noticing the difference

Yep, straight to the point indeed, thanks.

I read that the RTX 3070TI will come with 16GB VRAM next year. I wonder if it will be better to run VRā€¦

Jeez where do you start, feels a bit overwhelming. Im on series x at the mo but i also need to buy a new machine for my design work and so Iā€™m moving across from mac back to pc. the last PC i bought was in the noughties, but I would like a serious spec for MSFS.

Is there a difference between AMD and Intel? Whats the best setup. PC gaming has come along way since 2009!

I run 3080 with x3900.
All ultra in 4K. Between 40-60 fps.

Runs very fine. But I think I need to update to x5900 series of CPU. It is still very enjoyable, but sometimes on ground it could be another.

Thanks for your post. Im a bit twitchy  PC gaming is a bit of a gamble at the best of times and Iā€™ve had my problems on Series X so Iā€™m nervous about taking the plunge.

I just recently upgraded from a GTX 1070 to RTX 3080 running on a 5800X system. The 1070 was at 100% load on medium/high custom settings at 1080P however the 3080 is currently only at 40% usage on Ultra settings with 1080P and frame locked at 30 FPS (currently using an old 45-inch TV in front of my flight controls as the main display).

Yea, I get my NVIDIA RTX 3080ti tomorrow. Unfortunately I wonā€™t be able to use it for a few weeks. Tomorrow as soon as it get here I have to leave for about a week. Iā€™m upgrading from an RTX 2060 Super.

I have to put the 3080ti in a new system. My Dell doesnā€™t seem deep enough and the power supply is only 500 Watts, and it may not be powerful enough anyway.

I will build a new system when I get back. I had ordered the Corsiar 5000X RGB case and itā€™s way too big for my liking so I will drop it off on the way out tomorrow. But I think I have a new case in mind and will order it to arrive when Iā€™m back home.

The only other thing to decide on is the CPU cooler and I have some in mind.

But I already have an ASUS Maximus XIII Hero motherboard, Corsair 850W power supply, 128GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM, Intel I9-11900 CPU, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB.
