RTX 4070 Super, i9 14900KF and Pimax Crystal anyone?

I keep varying between smooth and stutters. My only Ultra settings were vector data and textures. Have brought those down to high. Everything else is medium, low or off. But with some aircraft I still get stutters and awful fps 10-15 (Tecnam P2012 and Chancellor I am looking at you) at an Aerosoft airport that runs fine with something like the King Air or the Vision Jet.

Anyone want to chime in on what they get out of their system?

3080Ti i7 11gen.
Some tips. No Reflex or Low Latency Mode. VR prerendered frames = 4. No locks on FPS or refresh rates. No Smart Smoothing.
Also this excellent guide to tuning your settings.

curious as to why you reccomend against reflex,
is the potential frame pacing difference noticeable in VR?

unfortunately I don’t have VR so I can’t see for myself

I am on a 9900k and I wouldn’t get those framerates on an inibuilds plane and scenery, granted I am flatscreen though. It does sound like you’re CPU bottlenecked in this scenario if the aircraft type affects framerate so much.

My copy pasted tips:

  • double check your CPU isn’t throttling back clocks,

  • double check your memory is running at XMP speeds

  • try going back to DX11 or switching to DX12

  • try running sim without any addons besides the planes (e.g. addon traffic, model mods)

  • try running the sim with no other background programs, steam minimized, etc.

  • try checking task manager (run as admin to see all processes) to see if anything is hogging CPU while running sim

VR has a fundamental flaw that is helped, but not solved, by a queue of frames. Reflex eliminates the queue. Long story short, if the vsync cycle comes around, the GPU can send the next frame in the cycle or if the CPU hasn’t made one in time, it will send an old one, slightly out of sync, creating the famous Judder effect. Having a queue should mean the GPU is always ready with a frame.

I will check a few of those last suggestions. The first set of recommendations didn’t have a noticeable effect.

I did upgrade to SU15 and my Nvidia driver at some point, and I can’t remember the settings I had in there. But I have never had a smooth experience since.

If the i9 14900KF is the bottleneck then there is not much to be done do to improve that (apart from getting the K and overclocking it or maybe swapping out the whole system to a 7950X3D or whatever it is called, both options are out of the question).

Atm I am running the Crystal at the recommended resolution (I’ll try bringing that down to 0.75x resolution), textures on high, terrain vectors on high and everything else on low or off. I know the 4070 Super isn’t close to a 4090, but I did not know it was THAT far off. Now get me wrong, it is definitely playable, if I stay away from major airports with addons, but it means I have to remove the very few airports I have purchased (the ones I know IRL) or fly using much simpler planes when visiting these. Bummer.
