RTX 4090 without GSYNC monitor

I’ve got a 4090 on the way, mostly for use in VR. But occasionally, I like to fly in 2D mode. Unfortunately my GSYNC monitor doesn’t work anymore, but I’d still like to use the Frame Generation option to maintain a constant 60 FPS while in 2D.

For those without a GSYNC monitor (mine is 60Hz), how are you running your 4090 and maintaining your refresh rate without tearing? Do you lock frames to 60 in RTSS? Do you force VSYNC through the NVCP?

Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately forcing vsync in the control panel without using gsync was broken by su11. I noticed this in the beta and reported it but while logged the issue remains. See link for details but basically doing so causes frame rate instability. The vsync setting in game appears to be ignored even though FG with vsync has been enabled by nvidia in a driver update end of 2022.

Just use the frame limiter in the control panel. Thats what I do

thanks for the replies. Since I also use VR, I’d probably just limit the frame rate via the RTSS application. Are you noticing any frame time spikes? Or is it pretty consistent?

The in-game Vsync will be automatically disabled and grayed out when frame generation is enabled. You will need to enable Vsync (not the fast option - doesn’t work with DX12) through the Nvidia Control Panel to get it properly working with frame generation.

If you are using Frame Generation then frame limiting will be from Nvidia Control Panel and not RTSS

Vsync is neither grayed out nor disabled when FG is selected (at least not on my system!). However the setting appears to be ineffectual as I notice no difference to the FPS with it on or off. (Flex Boost is grayed out with FG selected but that is because it is requirement for FG and so it is always needed and therefore enabled automatically).

If the OP turns on FG in-game and sets vsync in the control panel as you suggest (and cannot use Gsync due to his monitor) then he’ll experience the frame oscillation that I reported in my thread. This was accepted as ‘bug-logged’ and it appeared sometime during the SU11 Beta but is still not fixed as of SU12 release. (Personally I’ve no expectations that this will be fixed as so often happens with bugs introduced in new updates).

Image from my linked thread (see my post above) - you can see the frame time bouncing between a low level (green) and high level (red) on alternative frames. (4090/i7 12700K/Ultra settings).

p.s. I also found that this frame rate oscillation occurred even when using RTSS as suggested by another poster on this thread.
