RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RTX 5070 12GB?

QUESTION:

I want to replace my graphics card and my choice (limited by size and power) is between an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or a 5070 12GB. The 5060 is less powerful but has 16 gigabytes instead of 12.

Which one would you choose? Thank you…

Get 16GB of VRAM. I have the 4080S with 16, and that’s more than enough GPU for the sim right now. The 5060Ti with 16 would be great.

1080P, 2K, or 4K?

Copied, thx.

3x2K or 1x2K + 2xHD

I can’t say what’s best for your multimonitor setup but I’ve just got a 5060ti 16GB gpu and I’m very happy with it so far. I’m running at 1440p with two 32” hdr monitors and have most of my settings at high , pre cache at ultra, texture res high.

Flying low over London photogrammetry I’m sometimes seeing just over 12GB vram usage.

I’d guess if you do that sort of flying the 16GB will be more beneficial than the slightly better grunt from the 5070. Got an MSI inspire card which runs very quiet and stays around 50-55 C in a 2 hour flight.

I just picked up the PNY 5060 TI 16GB Overclocked card, pretty cheap at only $450. 70-100 fps on high/ultra at 3840x2160 on my Odyssey G7 43” monitor.

If mostly for MSFS 2024, then VRAM is your main concern. 16GB it is then.

I am so happy to still have my 3090OC with its 24GB when I see that the sim is using up to 19GB of it without any stutters and excellent performance on ULTRA with 60FPS locked (in 2D).

i tried both, was happier with the 5070 and VRAM was running at ~10GB with pretty much all settings on high…..that was ok until i got the inibuilds A350 and it all went out the window, stutters, running out VRAM, etc, ended up having to dial back settings, ugh…..

I have the 5070. I get 90 fps on high-ultra settings. Unfortunately I have a lot of stutters. The sim refreshes slowly. Even on the lowest settings. Does anyone know how can it be solved?

Greetings

i run this, it helps a lot….

5060ti 16GB definitely! I replaced my 4070 (12GB) with this one and the result is amazing due to the very fast 16GB!

One of the few moments when I am happy to currently not have the budget to replace my custom watercooled 3090 OC (24GB) :joy::joy:

I have been having this debate as I look at upgrading my old RTX 2060 Super. All the benchmarks are showing the 5070 out performs the 5060 TI, even though it has the extra VRAM, in MSFS2020 & '24. I was about to drop my money on the 5070 because I am sick of researching GPU’s and how they work in MSFS2024 specifically but I still decided that the extra VRAM will probably be more important for this game as we move forward. I am tired of all of this and I just want to get back to flying. Even though the benchmarks show the 5070 out performing the 5060 ti 16gb… it looks like it is still more than capable of handling the sim in video below. I think the additional VRAM may be more beneficial as the sim progresses but that is just speculation on my part. I hope I’m right. My MSI 5060 ti 16gb OC’s ed. should be here tomorrow. Ill try to circle back and share my thoughts after I get it installed and running.

Benchmarks:

https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/rtx-5070-vs-rtx-5060-ti-16gb

Performance Vid:

I went from 4060 8GB to 5060TI 16GB

I always runned out of vram with 8GB, big slutters at departure and arrival with the message, since I have 16GB I never saw this message again, even on big airport with complex planes

So go 16GB if you can

I have been running my MSI 5060 TI 16gb OC’d with setting mixed between High and Ultra for almost 10 days now and I no longer have any stuttering on the ground at the larger, more graphically demanding airports. It’s running flawlessly while flying over dense forested areas now. My motherboard is older so I am not even taking full advantage of this cards capabilities. I think it was a pretty sound purchase for MSFS2024. I have yet to see the sim utilize more than 12gbs of my VRAM but it uses that 12gb up pretty quick making me glad I did not go for the 5070… despite the better benchmarks.

I think you made the right choice where MSFS is concerned. I got my son an RTX 5060 ti 16GB, and though he doesn’t use MSFS a lot it’s a significant upgrade on the 3070 ti 8GB he had previously, particularly with flight sim 2024, DCS and Squadrons.

Few days ago, I replaced my RTX 4060, with 5060 Ti 16 GB.

I replaced it mainly because of stutters at ground level or at low level flights. Also, cockpit textures were blurry occasionally when I move camera around the cockpit. For example, if point view toward PFD and than to overhead, overhead textures gets blurry for few seconds.

Also I get warning for low GPU memory.

Now with 5060, that doesn’t happen, only sometimes, when I am at the gate, when I move camera from PFD to OVHD panel, I get one very short stutter, almost unnoticeable.

What is weird, it that I get almost the same amount memory usage, 6 to 7,9 GB out of 16 GB. Just a few spikes for a short period, goes over 8 GB, up to 8,4-8,7 GB.

So, how come when I had 8 GB VRAM memory wasn’t enough, but now when I have 16 GB it doesn’t use more than 8 GB most of the time. No blurry textures with same amount of memory used 4060 and 5060?

It’s more than just quantity that determines VRAM performance.

The 5060 Ti 16GB provides 16GB of GDDR7, whereas the 4060 typically has 8GB of GDDR6. This makes the 5060 Ti much better equipped for modern, texture-heavy games and AI tasks.

Bandwidth: The 5060 Ti has a 56% advantage in raw memory bandwidth (448 GB/s vs 272 GB/s on the 4060).

I have some knowledge about PC components and differences between them, GDDR5, 6, 7, etc. And how it works, that sometimes GHz or GB is not the same at CPU 10 years ago, or DDR2, 3, 4…

What really tickle my mind, is that I saw on YT, those who used 5060 Ti, they get 10-14 GB VRAM used.
I thought some of data was dumped to shared memory, but I disabled shared VRAM in nVidia Control Panel, but sill, in Task Manager it shows that shared memory is used. Mostly about 2-2,5 GB. Disabled as general and for MSFS speficaly.
