I and @Nikita already wrote what needs to be done - have you completed it yet?
You need to:
- Rename the “Community” folder
- Create a new one in the same location
- And rename the
exe.xml
file.
Let us know once it’s done.

Hi, I have watched this youtube video a few times now and if I add an external SSD I think I can now create another Community folder on this different drive IF this is the correct way to do it.
However, what is in this video does not seem to match with your above advice exactly - [quote=“TenPatrol, post:11, topic:731274”]
Rename your Community folder to Community_Copy and then create a new empty folder named Community in the same location.
Next, locate your exe.xml file - once you find it, rename it to exe_copy.xml.

I see in the video he has an exe.xml file but does not show how to go about renaming it to exe_copy.xml. (and I cannot find advice on a youtube on how to do that in MSFS 2024). OR whether I need to do that if there is a redirect to a different drive.
Anyway, I am now worried about which is the exact correct process and whether things have changes since this video was produced 8 months ago.
At no point did I tell you to move the Community folder to a different location or to connect any external drives.
All I asked was:
That’s it. Please follow these exact steps.
You’ll most likely find the exe.xml
file in the MSFS 2024 folder, which is located inside the hidden Roaming folder.
In the search bar at the bottom of your desktop type
%appdata%
and press Enter.
This will take you directly to the Roaming folder.
Sorry to be a trouble but I am really, really ignorant about computers. I am trying but seem to be ending up with questions in my head that I can’t find answers to.

Thanks, I will find the %appdata% folder, I have seen that. It is the actual renaming part I do not know how to do. Do I just delete exe.xml and add exe_copy.xml?
NO
At no point did I say to delete the exe.xml
file or create a new one.
You just need to rename it from exe.xml
to exe_copy.xml
- that’s it.
Please follow the instructions exactly as given - otherwise, the support we’re trying to provide won’t make any sense or be effective.
Thanks for this link, I will read and learn and get back to you
I would also run a prime95 and furmark stresstest. OCCT isn’t enough some times …
A prebuilt is usually not sufficient to be sure everything is ok, especially not if it is from a warehouse store like Costco.
Could you please list the exact HW installed in your PC and for RAM as I already asked the specific settings it is running at. (See Bios and there look for XMP (intel) or expo (amd) - use google to look up your specific motherboard and therefore Bios used)
At the hints others gave: really try to rename the community folder! To 100% rule out the sim. Renaming a folder can be done by right clicking on the folder and then click rename (in win 11 this can be hidden in a substructure of the right click file dialog. Look around a bit)
I have renamed an empty Community folder to Community_Copy just as TenPatrol has advised. (both are completely empty) I have then navigated to the User name>App data>Roaming>Microsoft Simulator 2024>Packages>Community to try and rename the exe.xml file - BUT there isn’t one in the community folder - ???
My system (exclusively MSFS 2024 on Steam)
Windows 11
AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D 8 core processor, 4700Mhz, 16 Logical processors
GPU Nvidia Gforce RTX 5080, driver 577.00, 32GB
CPU 2TB SSD
Gigafast 900 Internet hard wired to extender, WiFi 6E
I have renamed an empty Community folder to Community_Copy. (both are completely empty) I have then navigated to the User name>App data>Roaming>Microsoft Simulator 2024>Packages>Community to try and rename the exe.xml file - BUT there isn’t one in the community folder - ???
This is incorrect. The instructions were:
The purpose of these steps were to back up your community folder with the copy, and leave the empty Community folder available to 2020 to run without add-on DLC content to isolate your CTDs. Wondering if this is the kind of step-by-step assistance you want here, or if you would rather do your own thing chasing YT solutions? The reason I ask is that doing both won’t work out well for any of us trying to help you here. Make sense?
I renamed the existing empty Community folder to Community_copy. I then created another folder called Community in the same location. In msfs 2024
His first instructions were to empty community folder completely and then to exit sim and restart.
Then to rename to Community_copy and then a new Community folder. Then to find exe.xml file to rename to exe_copy.xml
This I cannot find - there is nothing in it
You mentioned earlier that you have Navigraph installed so why was the Community folder empty?
Do you have multiple Community folders in different locations?
I never said the exe.xml file would be in the Community folder.
What I said was that in the Roaming folder, there should be a directory related to MSFS 2024.
Inside that folder, you should find the exe.xml
file directly.

Please don’t follow multiple suggestions at the same time.
Let’s focus on the steps I’m giving you for now. If those don’t work, then you can try suggestions from other users.
Doing everything at once will only make things more confusing and harder to fix.
@Nikita @WildTapestry269
Let’s hold off on additional suggestions for now - things are getting a bit chaotic.
I’m walking the user through everything step by step.
ONCE I’M DONE AND IF IT DOESN’T WORK, I’LL LET YOU KNOW IN BIG CAPITAL LETTERS SO YOU DON’T MISS IT
I’ll also ping you both directly when it’s your turn to jump in.
Appreciate your help - just want to keep things clean and focused for now.
I uninstalled navigraph and the aerosoft honeycomb packages and emptied the community folder as per 3 days ago when you advised me to have a completely empty community folder - so I emptied it
I don’t think I have any other community folders just those 2 in the above post to Nikita. Which you advised me to make and copy.
OK, so please reneme exe.xml to exe_copy
Roaming → Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
The screenshot you sent only shows folders, not file names.
Oh!. So have I done it all wrong? I will have to look up how to get the file rather than a folder. OMG I feel so dumb
