RTX3070 4K High Settings Low FPS

Hi guys,

I was lucky to get a RTX3070 to replace my GTX1660 Super.

The specs of my rig are:

  • Intel Core i5-10400F
  • MSI Z490-A Pro
  • 16GB (2x 8192MB) G.Skill Aegis DDR4-3200 DIMM
  • 600 Watt be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM Modular 80+ Gold
  • 500GB Samsung 970 Evo M.2

I am running a Samsung 4K monitor and therefore using 4K resolution. I have set most of the settings to high, except clouds to Ultra and Tree/Buildings to medium.

Inside the A320 (mod and Asobo) I barely get more than 35 FPS, mostly it is below 30 FPS. On the outside view I get around 40FPS.

It seems that my system does not fully utilizing the resources.

Have a look on some MSI Afterburner graphs. The GPU is mostly at 60-70% with a few peaks and my CPU is also in the same usage.

Any ideas?

It’s good with a 3070

30 to 35 fps on 4k is the best you’re going to get, especially with 16gb RAM. This is a sim, not a FPS game… so to me, your results look totally fine.

Basically that’s the limit for your 3070 since it’s not a 4k card and that lackluster cpu you’re probably loosing some performance but since you are on 4k cpu might not matter.
@TepidHen2042283 Want more fps in an airliner? Get a faster cpu.

Your biggest issue is that the 3070 is a 1440P card and not 4K. The 3080 was always marketed as the full fat 4K card.

The big airliners are very processor heavy aircraft and your processor isn’t the most powerful. At this point I think we’re all waiting on the long awaited sim optimisations we’re apparently getting around the XBox release in early August. Hopefully things will improve for everyone then.

MSFS + 16GB of RAM and a 3070 running 4K on high… did you expect WarThunder?
I have 10c/20t, 128GB DDR4, and a 3080 yet you still have higher expectations than me

Try dropping the resolution scaling down to 80% or so, cutting all traffic in half, and running lower terrain level of detail to 100 or below. Give the camera a few spins if you are already flying when testing to level out the fps.

if it’s any consolation: I’m running a 3070 as well on a Ryzen 5950X and on High at 1080 I normally don’t get more than 40 in the A320 either. So that’s actually quite fine.
Don’t look for FPS in MSFS. That’s not the thing to be worried about. The biggest problem with MSFS is smoothness. So if you’re lacking a smooth ride with stutters or intermittend jerks then the problem doesn’t lie with the FPS

Thanks guys!

I did some testing and changed settings even to Ultra now and enabled the DEV mode to see the bottleneck. With Ultra and Render Scaling at 100 it of course switched between CPU and GPU. Changing the render scaling to 80 and settings back to high, it was mostly the CPU bottleneck as a few already suggested.

The Memory was mostly fine, so I cannot see why need more than 16 right now. The only upgrade could be maybe to an i7 11700 or i5 11600, but perhaps better wait till DX12 support.

I just need to find the sweet spot now for the settings, since some have a huge impact on performance of course, but others will make the game look terrible - I don’t like when the cities look ■■■■■■ and it takes time to load them. I think terrain level detail has a huge impact on how it looks.

Get an unlocked cpu with a K end what you want is a cpu with a higher base and single threaded performance.
What kind of board you got b460m?
If that’s the case youre better off getting the locked ones.

I got Z490 board. The 11600k seems to be a good fit. I saw YouTube video and had better performance than the 11700k, tested with a 3070 - Not sure how real this is..

What ever fits your budget get either.
I went from an i5 8400 to i7 10700k with no big difference in fps but performance with mods like fbw is night and day.Planes with glass cockpits I’m no longer getting those ridiculous fps dips.
