Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 - the new king of gaming?

Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is set to go on sale tomorrow and I’m wondering whether it will become the new king of gaming. Let’s remember that the king of gaming is not only about +5 FPS but also price.

I’m wondering whether the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will dethrone the Ryzen 7 9850X3D? Is it already time to write "the king is dead, long live the king?”

Does upgrading from a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or 9850X3D to a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 make sense for gaming only?
Or maybe you’re considering upgrading from your Ryzen 9 9950X3D to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2?

And of course - the big question is whether it’s actually worth it. The new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 is unlikely to be cheap and it will most likely demand a serious cooling solution as well.

It would also be interesting to hear opinions in the context of MSFS 2020 / 2024 since that’s one of the titles where CPU performance really matters.

So, is it actually a real upgrade for flight simmers?

MSFS uses hardware a bit differently than many games (I think) but here’s a snapshot of one of the YT testers averge across 14 games:

Based on this review, no. Quote snippets:

"… It also introduces a new asking price of $900, which, we have to say, seems very unreasonable…So what do you get for nearly a 30% price increase over the original 9950X3D? A second 3D V-Cache-enabled CCD, along with a modest 100 MHz reduction in maximum boost clock and an increase in TDP from 170W to 200W…More notably, gaming performance is expected to remain unchanged compared to the original 9950X3D. This makes sense as most games don’t require more than eight Zen 5 cores with 3D V-Cache, and even if they did the latency penalty when communicating between dies would hurt gaming performance…

Whew, I was sweating it for awhile with my “lowly” 9950x3D, worried that the x3d2 would beat me.
Looks like that’s not going to happen
