ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
Exiting the sim then restarting gives the Safe Mode prompt every single time since yesterday’s big 1.2.7.0 patch. Previous to yesterday I would occasionally see a crash/hang on exit in ucrtbase.dll in the Windows Event Viewer but since the patch no crashes in there and no obvious hangs. Just presents the safe mode prompt EVERY launch.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons?

Yes and removed exe.xml to stop it loading utilities like Fenix, afc_bridge, fsuipc, and GSX

• Since 1.2.7.0 patch, safe mode window prompt every launch. Deleted all addons in community folder but same result. Very Annoying.

When I try to exit MSFS2024, clicking Return to Desktop causes MSFS to freeze.
If I press the Window close button, it continues to run in the background for several minutes or more. During that time, MSFS2024 continues to occupy more than 30% of CPU usage.
If I force kill it, the next time I start it up, a safe mode popup appears, which is very annoying.
The problem goes away if MSFS2024 is successfully terminated.
Steam Version MSFS2020.

Clean reinstall simply solved this problem.

You did a full uninstall/reinstall of the sim and it fixed the permanent safe mode prompting? That’s annoying I just did that last week after the news about the corrupted CDN the first week (though I think I bought after that was switched). I’ve already tried deleting StreamedPackages and Scenery Indexes to let them re-download and rebuild. Maybe I should try deleting the rolling cache first before a reinstall.

Ok wow my issue seems to be a Steam issue. Unlike MSFS2020 and many of my other steam games, 2024 doesn’t show up in the recent games in the Steam shortcut pinned to my taskbar, so I right click/pinned to taskbar MSFS 2024 while it was running, and that seemed to work just fine before the big patch this week. I went as far as uninstalling the sim and starting to add config stuff back a little at a time. I was launching it from inside steam at the time. Then I re-pinned to taskbar while it was running, next time I launched it from there. Got the safe mode prompt at start. I haven’t even loaded a flight yet, I’ve just been loading to main menu and exiting after. Again no errors in the window event viewer. Not sure why they won’t let the sim be pinned to the jump list in the Steam shortcut. So I have to either open up steam or go right click it in the systray if I want to launch it. I don’t want a bunch of shortcuts piling up on my desktop.

Not sure if this is on Steam’s end, or MS/Asobo, or both.

• Appears to be a Steam issue. If MSFS 2024 is started directly through Steam, this screen doesn’t occur. It’s only an issue when using the exe from the game directory.

I fixed the annoying Safe mode prompt that would appear every time I started the Steam version of MSFS2024, even after closing the window and quitting.

Change FlightSimulator2024.exe to have administrator privileges and start MSFS2024 once.
After closing MSFS, disable administrator privileges.
From the next time I started the game, the Safe mode prompt almost never appeared.
