Sailplane / Glider sim

Hi all,

Many years ago I did a 1 week RW live in glider course, 10 hrs total flight time but never went solo. Ran out of money. Some years after that I told my wife I would like to fly again but she was concerned about safety. So we compromised and I purchased FSX. Loads of fun, but never tried the sailplane function. Move forward to 2020 and my son bought me MSFS2020 for Christmas. Loads more fun.

Now, I have an opportuntiy to do a bit of RW flying in a few weeks, so would like to practice on a sim.

I know RW is quite different to a sim, but MSFS2020 does not have great sailplane function.

Question, should I stick to FSX for sailplane or use KinitecAssistant with a sailplane addon? There will be a learning curve, any recommendatios for a good sailplane in MSFS2020?

I have been trying FSX but am having dificulty flying correctly. My PC is very powerful and am using a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro.

Regards,

Steve

if you want something for realistic gliding, can I suggest ‘Condor’?

Condor Soaring – The Complete Soaring Simulator

MSFS will get glider support later in the year, for now there’s workarounds with weather presets (like for the freeware Discus glider, which is a lovely plane/experience in MSFS, but not sure it’s what you’re looking for to brush up on RW flying).

I have been gliderflying for real in the past. During that time I used condor to get my procedures polished.
There is condor 2 at this moment which i recommend.
For MSFS there is a discus 2c addon on flightsim.to and with the use of kinetic assistent, its quite nice to soar over the MSFS scenery.
So long story short:

  • for (solo) flying over nice scenery: MSFS with the discus 2c addon
  • for advanced/expert level soaring and racing, with lower quality scenery: Condor 2
  • Or just like me: if in doubt, get both

Pity there is not a trial version of Condor 2

Doe Condor 2 allow you to designate any airport / airfield anywher in the world?

Hi Folks,

We’d like to keep the conversation focused on MSFS. So feel free to take the conversation about Condor over to their board. Thanks!
