Saitek Yoke / Throttle stops working after seconds

Hi guys, i am experiencing something really strange. After a few seconds of flying, my Saitek Yoke & Throttle stop working somehow in FS2020. When i get into the system settings, and get back to the menu, it works again a a couple of seconds and then immediately, it stops working.

The yoke itself always works, but the throttle box stops working, and also the A1/A2, B1/B2, C1/C2 stop working. I tried using a different USB port, reinstalled the drivers, removed the drivers (using windows 11 system drivers), switching profiles… nothing works. When in windows, in the Flight Yoke System app, every button is bein recognized without any problem.

Until yesterday, everything worked fine. The set is brand new i received it tuesday. What’s going wrong? I tried to use the FS2020 default settings and using custom profiles, nothing works… :frowning:

Anything else plugged into the yoke, Rudders maybe?

  1. I seem to remember having that issue many years ago and If I remember correctly, that one needs a power supply as well as the usb connection. Does it come with power adapter still?

  2. Try a powered usb hub.

  3. Saitek drivers are notoriously unreliable. If you installed those, uninstall them ,reboot and just let windows detect the yoke/throttle, verify working.

Is this a throttle that plugs into the yoke?
If not, when you tried a different port, did you try one not near the yoke?
Unless your power supply is failing, or isn’t large enough, I don’t think you would need a separate powered USB.
As above (and I see you mentioned using Windows Drivers) don’t use Saitek’s.
By any chance, is there a sleep mode enabled on the USB port (seems odd because it happens so quickly, but worth a look)

Thank for the replies, they were really helpful. It indeed has to do with the power supplied to the device. @ccrbc The throttle is connected via svideo cable to the yoke unit and nothing else is connected to it @TheSevenflyer . The yoke unit is connected to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port (I tried both, it did not solve the problem). But I discovered what the problem actually is… my HP Reverb G2 :frowning:

The moment I start playing in VR, both the throttle block and the buttons on the yoke stop working. When I turn off VR, everything works fine again. So now I have 2 options left

  1. it’s indeed something that has to do with power supply. But thats strange because if FS2020 is in desktop mode, the VR mode is running in the background and I guess that still uses a lot of energy in the WMR home?
  2. it has somtheing to do with some settings that change as soon as I enter VR mode. But that’s strange because nothing seems to be configured wrong.

a snap of a second the throttle works, then again it stops working. So I indeed think it’s a power related issue (1). Would you guys agree with me? And would buying a 1,7A / 5V adapter (which I can also plugin the yoke unit could solvhe this problem? Thanks in advance!

If your VR gear works fine in MSFS now with no issues, a powered USB sure is cheaper than a new power supply, and should do the trick nicely.
If your PC is quite capable, and if you have the funds, I’d be tempted to get a larger power supply, but that would be dependent on you current PC specs.
The larger power supply would allow for any additional changes to the PC you may make.

Hmmm, i doubt that it’s my PSU. It’s a 860W Platinum PSU. And I think it’s strange that the yoke itself keeps working and the rest doesn’t… when there’s not enough power I guess it would be completely off?

but i buy a universal power adapter tomorrow and let you guys know if this fixes the problem… seems like a rather specific problem…

I didn’t have problems with my X-56 HOTAS, but elected to run them on a powered USB hub.

I’ve never had any problems. Some people also complain about binds toggling on their own when connected to the PC and the reason I elected for a powered USB hub.

I got it at Amazon relatively cheap, for $20. It’s a four port which you can turn off ports.

I have my HOTAS, wireless headset transmitter and TrackIR on the hub.

Have had this problem when ever my mouse would go off screen. Set it to never go off it it’s been fine.

Also there is anew bug, if you touch any open window like avFR map etc, some throttles and buttons atop, till you hover your mouse over another spot not window related…. Happens to me in VR…

Have you checked your USB power settings to make sure your computer is not turning them off to save power. There have been many posts on this subject. Best of luck! More info here https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/vqeXGMl5jYc

In addition to Flightjox, i have used the following instruction on youtube for my usb devices. Specially with changing usb devices to other ports. Pay close attention because it uses regedit to change power management! Only do this when comfortable with edit regedit. Hope it helps!

  1. Get a Powered USB hub. Plug your yokes, etc. into it. Basic USB can supply power, but it has its limit and you may be closer to the edge.

High freq communication, like the USB line to Reverb G2, actually consumes more power (High frequency <== more DC power consumption by silicon devices that switch at those HF). Don’t make your USB power budget to shoulder it all.

  1. Don’t use a Saitek driver, use stock Win driver instead.

Get a powered usb hub 3.0 hub…they are cheap on amazon like $15 for a 8 port

How / where do you set that? I can’t find that option anywhere.

A little update;

i bought an external 12V 2A usb hub; did not work
i bought a 5V 2A power adapter which is connected now BUT
i found out the problem still occurs unless i go to settings menu, select the yoke as control (with my mouse) and as soon as it’s selected i use the keyboard to get back to the plane using esc. as long as i don’t use my mouse anymore, it keeps working. As soon as i touch the mouse; the problem is back.

So it seems that it’s some kind of bug giving control to the mouse instead of the controller in VR. But now i have to find where to change that setting…

You should do a search here for
VR mouse control

There are some threads on the topic.

Hmm, i am looking for those keywords now and can’t find anything on the forum that looks like my problem (or brings a solution to it). I only need to know where i can set the mouse to never go offscreen and that would fix it if @LTMcComb is right.

I don’t think there is anything in settings that will do that.
I had hoped one of the posts may point out a work around!

I have a very similar issue. All controls freeze until I move my mouse. Problem is, that I have to move my mouse every 5 seconds to keep my controls alive. Any suggestions?

Plug all and any Saitek/Logitech products right into your motherboard. No if and or buts.

I’'m testing again some evening this week, but it seems that keeping the mouse in the middle of the screen while in VR is the solution. I need to test further, but it seems that it doesn’t have anything to do with power shortage or the USB port I plug it in.
