San Francisco Bay Area fog

Does anyone know the best way to simulate natural Bay Area fog, using either real-time or preset weather ?

Also comparing cloud quality low to ultra (ultra about a FPS penalty of 20 but much better visually) …

You mean like this?

Yea, thats what I mean !

The trick for me is to mix two thin layers of cloud, just a few hundred feet thick together to get some nice variety.

If you get it right, you can have a narrow band that you can punch through as you land.

Weird reflection anomalies though.

Thanks ! I expected expected to be able to get it with “real” weather, but this works … gettin’ the hang of it now …

Or this:

Just to give you an idea of what it’s like at sea level as you punch through:

There are all sorts of GUI defects with the weather interface. Sometimes you will see a cloud layer change from Clear to Overcast depending on what you have its coverage set to, most of the time it does not. You can also find a cloud layer will not even render correctly, and it has a lot to do with their order. Dragging a cloud layer above another, for example, can “break” them, and you have to reset the weather preset to restore its functionality.

Fun to play with. Here was a preset I created that gave pleasing clouds.

Looks more like LA smog. :grinning:
