Happy flights @thinksFlyer - hope you enjoy your flights there, I did on XP11 before too after the end of FSX - thanks for sharing your opinion about the sim but I got some hope still, as the team said they are committed for the long term - maybe more resources will gather and turn some fundamental issues around - it’s a new year.
You have a MSFS history too, maybe see you again - both sims can be installed too.

I too have a little hope, but not much because I am convinced they actually cannot fix it and have no financial motivation to. Try Teleporting, jumping ahead in the flight, say to the descent stage. Does that work? Hint: It does not. Or… You simply Pause (to not save) and what happens? Time progresses unpaused. What Asobo has delivered is laughable. Just Bing for those who fly the Icon little plane and are happy. I have a beautiful warm history with MSFS and I am so sad to see what Asobo did with it. I gave my son FS95 when he was 5 years old. When he was 25 years old he gave me an hour with an instructor in a 777 full motion 26 million dollar sim. And he is my instructor on 172. And he flies 757-767. A friend of my son’s, a A320 pilot, sat at my MSFS with the native A320 and he was so frustrated. He wanted to love it but it was impossible.

Brief description of the issue:
Recently I started a long range flight from SBGR (Guarulhos) do OMDB (Dubai) in intention of saving and continuing later until the end of the route. (Default 747 — XBOX Series X)
After about three hours of flying this route, I decided to save the flight and continue later, but when I loaded the flight, it load with no flight plan! the FMS route disappeared! I tried to open the ATC window expecting that I could reactivate the flight plan, but for my surprise, I was not able to open the ATC window!!!
By the end, I concluded that it would be impossible to end the flight plan, and I waste three hours of a day for nothing.
Still I don’t understand why all the “on top menu” functions dissapears when loading a flight, such as weight, weather and etc. I would love to be able to change weight, weather and time when loading a flight. (when stopping by an airport and taking of later for example, continuing exactly on the same state and simulating time change and fuel / load por example)
In conclusion, save flight function is there for nothing, because the most important features you want to save during a flight don’t work.
Please, suppport team, focus on a solution to make save flights work properly, we don’t want to lose the flight plan, we want to keep all cockpit settings and aircraft state unchanged, and being able to adjust all features of “on top menu” just like an unsaved common flight.
Take as example FS2004, this featured used to work very well.

Take any default aircraft, create a flight plan, start flying, save, close, and nothing will work in the top menu, neither simple things like ATC, and your flight plan will disappear from FMC.

No, the issue always happened, I never tried to save a flight since then…but after a long time I thought this could be already solved, but I see it isn’t.
So I have a question for everybody then. Do you experience the save/reload flight plan issue described for MFS2020 in X Plane 12 as well?

I agree that this would be great for longer flights. This would be a great question for the next dev Q and A. Perhaps there is a technical reason why this cannot be implemented easily, which would be great to understand.

The issue applies to all the standard long flight jets, A320, B787, B747, and to flight plans created in World Map and to “*.pln” files created in SimBrief; and has been a bug since 2 years ago.
There used to be a work around. I won’t describe it in detail since it’s been around and discussed in these forums for at least a year now and I know you know what it is: - open or create a “* .pln” in WorldMap, save it as a “.flt” file, then BEFORE pressing FlyNow, exit game, open this “*.flt” file (from LocalState folder) in text editor, change the parameter:
SaveOriginalFlightPlan=False
to
SaveOriginalFlightPlan=True
save edited textfile, restart MSFS and load that flight in WorldMap and only then press FlyNow.
I used this workaround on many flights(e.g., YSSI Sydney to Narita, Japan, RJAA), resuming the flight with the original flight plan loaded OK being followed by Autopilot and ATC, and only a few remaining glitches.
SADLY, with 1.29.30 that workaround no longer works. The parameter stays set True but the flight plan is lost - when you resume the flight, it’s not loaded into the plane’s systems, and neither autopilot nor ATC know anything about it. So the update breaks the old workaround without fixing the old problem.

Weird thing I noticed today: starting a saved flight (.flt file) that has a related flight plan that appears to be lost - in fact the plan is loaded, just not into the plane’s systems. If you pull down the Navlog from the menu bar at the top there the plan is in all its glory. Meanwhile the plane’s systems show no sign of it. There’s nothing in the FMCU or FDS, no map showing the route, etc. The ATC behaves as if it knows nothing of any plan but, miraculously, if you ask ATC for “the vector to the next waypoint” it tells you correctly. You can check this in the Navlog. Plus if you have “indicate direction” or whatever in the Assistance from the menu so that there are direction pointers outside the airplane they will point to the next waypoint in your “lost” plan. SO - at least as long as you changed the original .flt file to SaveOriginalFlightPlan=True before pressing FLY, then the plan is still there when the flight is resumed. Don’t know whether flipping that parameter matters or not. Haven’t checked that. The original plan is there and working, it’s just that it doesn’t get loaded into the plane’s controls and the Autopilot isn’t following it. This shouldn’t be that hard for Asobo to fix.
See, I knew it! This is what I am have posted before (not to you directly, but in general) that the plan seems to be there after resuming it from save, but it is not loaded into at least the default A320 FMC. I wonder if something related the specific A/C in the .flt file (A/C used at that time) needs to be edited BEFORE you hit the fly button for the first time? I don’t know.

It’s unbelievable that is not possible to save a flight on XBOX. Asobo are you kidding us? On XBOX the loaded flight is unusable (no top bar, no runaway selection, after loaded the flight)
With the PMDG 737, when you reload a saved flight with a flight plan, say 3 hours into, at cruise altitude, does that flight plan still populate/reload automatically in the FMC; and does ATC recognize it?
When working properly - it should, yes.
When saving a .flt file; the associated PMDG files (.rte, .fmc .sav) are saved into the working directory here (this is for the B737):
\pmdg-aircraft-737\work\PanelState
At the moment, as last tested ATC clearance is not saved, when loading a save file.

I don’t care about in sim ATC but to me all is reloaded correctly every time I did that. There can be some speed change at your cruise alt because maybe different weather at load time changed but FPL and proc are there, no problems.
It’s good to see these issues have been merged. Does that imply that we may actually one day be able to load flights (.flt) with the flight plan that existed when we saved the flight?
This is such a frustrating issue! I fly a lot with my friend in VR, and we make flight plans together and then try to fly them, but it’s nearly impossible because we can’t do something as basic as save and load flights from where we left off! Come on Microsoft and Asobo - please do the basics! And it would also be nice if you could at least mention this from time to time in the developer updates (all of which I listen to with great interest)

today I detected a very interesting behaviour when trying a workaround in order to load a flightplan during flight.
First after loading flight (.flt) from worldscreen , the flight plan was missing in FMC as usual, airplane (Boeing 787) appeared on last saved location, flying in heading nav mode.
Then I went back to menu with ESC and selected the ‘load from pc’ option.
As we know in the dropdown box, only .flt files can be selected, but nevertheless I could
load a plan by typing in the name of the .pln file directly in the box.
After went back to simulation, the flightplan was available in FMC and I could resume the flight without problems.
But now a very surprising thing came up. When went back with ESC to menu again in order to save my flight, the load/save button is missing, only options for restart and go back to main menu are available.
But it seems the basic functionality is working of loading flight and plan is working, but
for any reason the system does not allow any further saves.
I will have to try that very same thing next time, loading a saved flight, going back to he main menu, then typing in the name.pln instead of .flt. If that really works, then why hasn’t Asobo said anything about it, unless other simmers have tried it and it didn’t work for them.
