Screen tearing with DLSS frame generation enabled

Talking of loading times, I’ve recently come cross from Xbox and my pc loads pretty fast into the menus, compared to series x which took a while, maybe something has changed recently or it’s just a lot quicker on pc to load into the menus.

Guess the pc hardware makes the difference though.

I’ll add to the suggestions provided by other forum users and ask if G-Sync is checked in the Nvidia Control Panel?

I’ll also ask if VRR is enabled in the TV settings?

BTW, you forgot to mention the model of your TV.

Still to check, but pretty sure gsync is enabled when the last time I looked, I did state the model in my OP, it’s an lg cx.
How would I enable vrr in my tv settings, I have amd freesync enabled, isn’t that it?

On LG TVs, you should enable Gaming Mode or something similar. There should be an option for VRR - if it’s not available, it’s possible that your TV doesn’t support this feature.

Definitely supports vrr, I used it on series x.

Can’t for the life of me remember how I set it up though, perhaps it is the AMD freesync I have enabled.

My LG OLED C3 TV has a Game Optimizer mode.
In these settings, I can choose between VRR/G-Sync and AMD Freesync Premium.

Mines older so not got the game bar, but I have the setting to enable amd freesync which is enabled so I’m using vrr.

In combination with G-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel, this should work.

Just tested, tearing now gone

Thanks for the help.

One final thing what does capping the framerate at 60fps do? As in what are the benefits, can I still tweak my graphical settings as much as possible.

Great to hear!

Capping your FPS not only gives your PC a break by reducing CPU and GPU load, it also ensures a steady 60 FPS – not fluctuating between 61 and 68 FPS, which is not great for smooth play, especially in VR. It also makes things more predictable for Frame Generation, so no more micro-stuttering.

You can tweak your graphics settings by following these steps:
First, turn off your FPS cap in NVCP so you can see how much leeway you have while testing. After booting into the simulator, enter Dev Mode (under the Developer tab in General Settings) and enable the FPS Counter.

  1. Set yourself up in the most performance-taxing scenario: payware airport, dense photogrammetry nearby, lots of trees, clouds, complex airliner, etc.
  2. Slowly raise your in-sim Graphics Settings, beginning with: TLOD, OLOD, Cloud Quality, Trees, Grass and Bushes (these are huge CPU factors, so check your FPS Counter. If Limited by Mainthread is shown, your CPU can’t keep up. Lower these settings if needed).
  3. Tweak other settings as you like, there are many comparison videos on YouTube, so take a look there.
  4. Most importantly, ensure you maintain above 60 FPS with FG throughout your changes. If you dip below 60, undo that change. Bear in mind that the in-sim FPS Counter does not realize that Frame Generation is adding double frames, so you only need to ensure that you stay above 30 FPS in-sim.
  5. When you’re finished, you should be able to run the most complex scenario with a minimum of 60 FPS. Now you can turn your FPS cap back on.

I will try that next time, cheers.

I know without frame cap I was hovering around 75 with frame gen, but didn’t think to look out for limited by mainthread.

By the way do you have any suggestion for that dynamic setting, I have it on as default and it’s set to 30fps target I think.

Can you clarify what you meant?

It’s in the graphic settings menu a setting called dynamic LOD I think, and it has a fps target you can set, it’s at 30 (default)

Sorry not at sim now, so can’t rember the exact name.

Oh yeah for FS2024. I’ve heard that may cause super low LOD, it may be best to turn that off. From what I know it should be able to maintain 60 FPS on your specs even without dynamic LODs.

Talking of limited by mainthread, I take it it’s always shown, but if it’s highlighted green all good, if it’s red reduce some graphical settings.

And how this issue could be fixed on Xbox?, the screen tearing is massive, and we don´t have any kind of graphic settings. This problem does not exist on MSFS2020.

I’m getting the exact same issue. I have a 165Hz monitor with G-sync enabled. I capped the in game fps to 60, which I also did in MSFS2020. I already have what you recommended set up and that hasn’t helped yet. It isn’t even constant screen tearing, it’s when very thin objects (mainly in walk-around mode) appear on screen, and it only happens with frame gen enabled.

It has to be a bug with the game not people’s set-ups because this wasn’t happening in MSFS2020.

Frame gen does introduce weird artifacts, which may be what you’re seeing. Can you post a short clip of that happening here?

Could it be the same issue I describe here?
There is a video so you can compare.

If yes, please post on this thread as well and vote for the bug
