Scrolling outside MSFS window still zooms within MSFS

Ok, so hopefully it will be bug-logged soon.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

Scrolling the mouse wheel on any external screen (whilst MSFS is running) will also trigger the scroll in MSFS (in my case zoom in zoom out.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Its widely known and easy to reproduce. Two monitor computer. Load MSFS and sit in any cockpit. Load Chrome (sorry, Edge for MS users) and zoom scroll on a webpage. MSFS zooms in and out.

Brillaint! How is it that a freeware developer can fix this and Asobo just can’t seem to find the time…

This had my virusscanner’s alarm bells go into overdrive…

I didn’t have any virus scan issues with the app on my system. I am not the owner of the Windhawk app but I’m guessing it triggers some alarms because it seems to change the way the windows API handles the flight simulator window. The source code is displayed in the app so you can see what it’s doing to fix the bug.

Hi, Windhawk author here. Windhawk works well with Windows Defender, but might have incompatibilities with other antiviruses. It makes sense, since Windhawk injects code into all processes in the system, and some antiviruses see it as suspicious activity, even though the Windhawk files are digitally signed and the injected code doesn’t do much unless mods are installed.

You might have more luck using Windhawk along your antivirus if you limit it to the FlightSimulator.exe process. This can be done via the advanced options of Windhawk.

Here you can see the reason Windhawk injects code into all processes:
https://github.com/ramensoftware/windhawk/discussions/21

Search for “You can configure it in the advanced settings” in that page for instructions for limiting Windhawk to a single process.

Ok many thanks @Michael05831, appreciate the reaction. Will give it a try and thank you for your support to the community!

I agree that it’s a problem. My solution is to click in the 2nd monitor before zooming on its page, then clicking on the main monitor when I want zoom control back.

I sometimes forget to do this, though, and it is annoying to see my cockpit view zooming unexpectedly.

I do the same thing. It works fine for me.

Any news in fixing this Asobo?

The question is, “Can they?”
I’m pretty sure this is a Windows thing.

If I left-click in my 2nd monitor and scroll, only that monitor scrolls. The sim in the primary monitor does not.

If I then left-click back in the sim, the mouse scrolls (zooms) there, but does nothing in the 2nd monitor.

IOW, I have to focus the mouse by clicking in the appropriate monitor.
