Sea Ice Lighting Rendering Distance Reduced Significantly Near Poles

Brief description of the issue:

Sea ice albedo effect (whiteness) rendering near the poles is drastically lower than normal; it effectively renders a small disc around the aircraft

Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

  1. Set up live weather so you can have sea ice
  2. Fly near McMurdo Station (NZPG or NZFX)
  3. Fly at altitude

PC specs and/or peripheral set up if relevant:

Ryzen 7 3800X, RTX 3080

Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:

SU11, not sure what the build number was. Current build I’m seeing it on is 1.30.7.0

I take it back, it’s not sea ice rendering; it’s the lighting of the sea ice based on environmental factors.

In the clip below, you can see the sea ice extend to the horizon, but the circular lighting just below the aircraft makes it look like the sea ice is only underneath the aircraft:



More samples: transitioning from mainland Antarctica to the Ross Ice Shelf. One could see the “disk” of light underneath the aircraft.
