Seaplane, Float and Amphibious Missions

Now that the water physics have been improved in 2024, it would have been a great time to do some float flying mission in career. With the 208 and DHC-2 as well as the flying boats they seemed to have leaned into amphibious flying more but left it out of everything but free flight and fire fighting.

I’d love to fly the 208 anphib around the Bahamas or into a mountain lake to a cabin. Cargo runs on the north west US/ Vancouver Canada.

They’re so versatile yet completely unused

Can we have Amphibious aircraft in career mode? Especially in missions like FlightSeeing? I thought maybe there could be a sim update that includes bespoke Seaplane bases and those can be used to house Amphibious or seaplanes for various missions like flightseeing, or more?

FYI, I’ve merged your topic into this one (and amended the title to include the word “Seaplane”) so all votes for this type of mission are now in this topic.

I can imagine hauling an absolutely insane amount of cargo in the Hughes H4 and Dornier Do X.

For real or photoshopped?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was real but I cannot verify, just a pic I remember seeing and I want these missions to be like this, I regularly see boats/canoes, bikes, dirt bikes etc strapped to the outside of these planes going deep into the back country

It would be great to pack them up like this. Not so sure about the CG though. Is that a person under the wing clinging to the strut as well? I tried to get a closer look but it did not enlarge.
Sadly the programming complexity will most likely never let this be a feature.

When you say you regularly see them doing this, do you mean in real life? I would love to see that but live on the wrong side of the pond!

Sea planes / amphibious Job would be amazing and some flights real world dont take long, I have no clue how the careermode back end is done it would be nice to get some info like how the missions are added and on what values, as all you need to do is go to youtube and you will find alot of realworld routes, then using that manual add a route in the careermode, Seattle even has https://harbourair.com/locations/seattle/ suprised that wasnt added as a career option

Aah, that’s the life right there

Drop off supplies/people at their destination, takeoff into some beautiful scenery, stop at another lake and do a little fishing from a pontoon then take back off and head back to base. rinse and repeat

The US-2 is one of the world’s largest amphibious aircraft, capable of landing in 10-foot swells.

Can still fly around and pretend

I’m all for more seaplane/floatplane operations. The main thing holding it back is lack of seaplane bases. If Microsoft can figure out how to add a ton of seaplanes bases like they did with glider fields, it would be amazing.

It doesn’t even have to be super accurate, just a generic dock model with some parking spots and a “runway” and plop those everywhere that OSM already knows about.

It came up in a Discord group that many people still don’t know that you can start cold and dark on the water anywhere. Click anywhere on water to set a destination and in the dropdown menu, you can select to be on the ground either cold and dark or with engine started.
