Yes, most trees in the northern hemisphere are bare this time of year, C’mon Asobo please make this your priority to implement.
Something new about seasons?
Shouldnt this been included in the first updates?
I think it should have They need to figure this out or people are going to go back to Xplane and P3d.
Eh…back to Xplane to enjoy seasons or…?
Maybe
Apart from changing tree/grass textures to yellow during autumn and blush green in spring, they could also easily make snow realistic. They surely have historical weather data so they could make some areas white if there was snow in last week or two and the temperature haven’t gone up above 3 degrees since then. Oddly season disappeared from their wish list, wonder why…
Nice to see they’ve started on seasons and slated for 2021
Is it for sure ? and how do you know that ?
I hope it’s true. It must be implemented no later than early 2021.
In the Dec. 10th Dev Update, it’s listed in the Top Wishes snapshot. Status is started with release in 2021.
I’m thinking they will start with spring since they already have summer and autumn would be to late
I’ve just saw it on the latest wishlist snapshot, set for 2021 as you stated.
To my surprise, they haven’t yet started to fix the horizon line visible in front of hills / mountains.
Bijan’s 4 season pack works great, no more green in the winter! Google it…
I firmly believe we can expect some sort of spring season version in the sim.
Ideally I’d like to see the sim have seasons built in. And I’d love to see an option to have them blend by date. So if you are between summer and fall, a mix of the two would be calculated when you start up a flight. There needs to be gradual seasons, not just one of four.
I did just buy the Bijan pack and it’s much better than nothing, but I wish there was some user color adjustments. Sometimes the colors are too saturated, and the Spring preview looked a bit over the top with purple and white blossoming trees. But maybe that’s only in areas known for such trees in Spring? But I love that this is a work in progress and he’ll be making constant improvements and is happy to get feedback about the trees in particular areas!
That would be ideal to see gradual changes and seasons built-in. But I don’t see how that would work with photogrammetry trees which is part of mesh. Asobo will need to fix photogrammetry first before creating seasons, unless we turn photogrammetry off.
Purple trees are very common in many part of world such as Jacaranda, Crape myrtle, etc. and the color are matched to real flowers. Some tree leaves in spring are in fact do look saturated in real life in spring trees.
I made a video in V4 comparing real pictures vs sim screenshots so users can compare.
Thanks for commenting BIjan. I saw the video and indeed there’s a reasonable match to the reference images. I guess I’m not fortunate enough to have lived places with that consistent amount of colorful blooming trees! I have no problems with that as long as it’s accurately isolated to places that have that amount of blooming trees in real life.
I’d still love to see some user color controls for fine tuning to local areas or user preferences, granted that may be complex to implement.
I haven’t had enough time to explore differing areas, but I am enjoying your add on. Thanks for taking on this challenging area the sim itself is sorely lacking.
I can definitely modify the trees or colors in the area you fly most to your liking. Or if you feel comfortable editing the files, I can give you some tips so you can edit the colors yourself.
Thank you for the feedback.
Really appreciate that!
Once I have had a chance to survey some of my areas I will certainly give you some feedback. I’m in the Vancouver BC area these days, but I have also lived in California and do a lot of flying around there. The lack of palm trees in Southern California coastal areas by default was very disappointing In many places there’s photogrametry containing poor representations of the palms and I don’t see any easy way around that, but perhaps something can be done in some way.
And I’m very curious how well areas with the giant Giant Sequoias could be represented by the included conifer varieties. Even if the realistic huge sizes were well reflected, they have such unique features. This should be taken to another forum more specific to scenery/trees and not seasons, but I am curious if you have done any looking into what it would take for a user/developer to add entirely new tree types/models? I’d be very tempted to try that. I will have to go poking around and see if I can extract the models and textures the default trees use to understand how to make new ones. The way they get that volumetric look to the foliage is quite interesting. Many years doing 3D graphics and it’s not obvious at a glance how that’s implemented. And back to seasons to a degree, getting leafless, bare deciduous trees for winter would be super cool. Though I understand that’s well beyond what your add on deals with, at least at this point. Thoughts? Maybe move that talk to another place if it’s worth a discussion?
During implementation of seasons please don’t forget to fix live weather problem. Seasons with live weather is not fully functioning will certainly lift the bug into another high level.
Kind regards.
