Hi All,
First flight in VR today and I’m hooked!
Is there a way to set departure airport that is not on the departure map? Eg I took off and flew to an area that I know has a very small landing strip and sure enough FS has a pin and knows of the strip (or small airport if you like), however I cannot select that as the departure airport - I have to depart from the nearest major airport and fly there. Even when I zoom in to the departure map, all of the smaller airports I know of are not there, however they all are there and recognised when you fly there.
Any thoughts?
Yeah, I’ve found that there are also lots of small dirt/grass strips in the real world that are not listed as such by MSFS. You can see them when you’re flying, and on Google Maps (and even Little Navmap) but they don’t appear on the World Map for flight planning. I have not found a way to include these on a flight plan (except as waypoints). I would like to know if I’m wrong, though.
You would think there would be a way. FS even recognises them as airports and shows the airport symbol.
I see the same here in So. Maryland when looking for strips I know of. I was also disappointed to not see local hard strip airports such as K2W5 not shown in MSFS (but it is in Xplane). I get the feeling that there’s more attention given here to the commercial airports, and aircraft, than to the GA community. it’s sad…
There are many landing strips not known to the FAA in the US because they are private and don’t want anyone using it. And there are small private airports that no longer exist but the owner never removed them from the FAA database. And a few where the owner moved a couple of miles but the airfield is still listed at the previous location. And there are “airports” that seem to have been randomly created where there isn’t any landing strip or history of a strip being there. I think there will always be issues with correct info for tiny landing strips.
Occasionally when I fly in farm country, I will see what looks like an ideal landing strip in some farmer’s field. But there is nothing on any charts or software that identifies it. I think these “strips” are for ag planes doing crop dusting.
After SU10 you have to zoom on the map pretty close to see those small airfields and this is not practical for me.
