Sensitivity settings for default xbox controller

I am using an old wired XBox controller on PC. Although the issue might be with xbox game console too, wired or wireless.

The sensitivity is on steroids, and I mean over 9000 steroids. The slightest touch (1-2 milimeter, aka 0.04-0.08 inch) would change the pitch by 10% easily. I coudln’t even get the first mission done.

This is my sensitivity now. It took me an hour to figure out that Extremity dead zone has to reduce the sensitivity (both axis on left joystick - pitch and roll) and it still feels too strong. With this the Roll is okay. But the pitch still is too strong.

At the start I have tried to set only the Sensitivity+ and Sensitivity- to -0.8, still was weird. Extemity dead zone helped, but look at the curve. This can’t be normal.

My controller works perfectly normal in other games: racing sims, arcadace, metrod platformers (jump & run), twin stick shooter (bullet hell).

I’ve tried old planes, cessnas, 2 engine, turbo props, jet engine, jets, helicopters … every one of them was uncontrolable.

I still need to fine tune the sensitivity, but it is like playing with 2nd number behind the decimal point (0.90, 0.92, 0.96) graph barely moves but it makes big difference in controlling the plane.

It would be very nice to see a dot on the graph move reactively to the movement of the controll itself (in this case left “steering” stick). When you move it in the axis you are setting sensitivity for, it should drive the dot on the X axis on the graph and it translates into “amount” of Y axis of the graph into the plane. One then could immediatelly see that moving the stick 2 milimeters (0.08 inches) makes a HUGE movement in the Y axis on the graph, which then makes the plane very hard to control smoothly.

I also have a wired Xbox 360 controller and have noticed the same - sensitivity is much more pronounced in 2024 than 2020. I use it just for moving camera viewpoints, and so just needed to change the Dead Zone value to 0.2.

I think your idea of having a visual representation on the graph that reflects the actual movements of the controller is a good one. Voted.

Why did they remove retroactivity? It was quite useful for control.
