Seperate wave heights for inland/small bodies of water compared to oceans

One of the more jarring immersion breakers for me on windy days is seeing unrealistic large waves on rivers and lakes. There appears to be a single wave height applied to all water based on windspeed, whereas in reality wave height is largely influenced by the size of the body of water the wave has travelled across, coupled with the wind speed. It would be very nice to reduce the wave heights on small inland bodies of water by a significant margin maybe even as low as 10% of ocean/sea wave heights. I assume (probably incorrectly) there is already some kind of distinction in sim between oceanic bodies of water and inland ones that could be used to apply this scalar?
