I have a home-made button box used for mostly autopilot controls. I can map heading and altitude and VS to rotary encoders with no problems but I cannot find the way to change the crs via rotary. Does anyone know the correct name for htis control mapping?
Are you referring to the VOR OBS? I use mobiflight with my rotary encoders since my Elegoo 2560 (similar to Arduino) won’t natively communicate with MSFS.
Yes OBS-VOR1 can be mapped and it works (green arrow) - Im using an arduino clone chip and the PC just treats it as another joystick input. I need to look into being able to change the magenta GPS course line in a similar way. I’m not familiar enough with the Garmin 1000’s and 3000’s to know my way round them very well yet.
This might help.
Oh I gotcha, it’s a Garmin thing. I hate glass cockpits so I’m not sure what that would be listed as.
Wow thats disappearing down a deep dark rabbit hole for me! I’m sure I managed to map the crs increase/decrease to a rotary knob before, just cant remember the correct keybinding name to use in-game.
You just assign to the control 65663 for increase (rotate right), and 65662 for decrease/rotate left. The name of the control is VOR1 OBI INC and VOR1 OBI DEC.
It’s not a rabbit hole, butjust a bit more advanced use of peripherals.
I suggest a utility such as FSUIPC, SPADnext or Axis and Ohs.
I dont actually need FSUIPC, SPADnext or Axis and Ohs. (I downloadded them a few months ago to try them but way over-complex for what I need). My button box wortks fine as a simple joystick controller, just needed to map the rotary encoder to the correct binding in-game, which was OBS. Now when I depress the rotary encoder it cycles thru the obs modes, and when i rotate it, it increases or decreases the crs (when in VOR1 or VOR2 mode). Nice and simple and effective!
Sure, you say that now. Till you need to map 150 inputs… ;D
I have 2 button boxes and a hotas, that gives me 96 mappable buttons just running of normal windows joystick controller configs. Thats more than enough for my brain to handle ![]()
