Setting up a full flight - use World map or FMS?

Might be a stupid question but I’m new to doing a full flight in airliners and was wondering what’s the best way to set it up. Do you choose the departure and arrival destinations on the world map, and if you do do you select the runway as the destination or the gate you plan to arrive at? Or, do you just use the FMS and input all the data. Im more curious if you select the runway and ATC assigns a gate or if that is something you set yourself.

I use Simbrief and either import it that way (if it can be) or enter it into the FMC/FMS/MCDU manually.

I generally depends on the plane. The payware planes (BAE 146, MD11, 737) that were just released can be done via the FMC, but you likely won’t get the MSFS ATC support. The overhaul mods for the default planes (Salty 747, FBW a320, HW A330, HD 787) have the ability to create a flight plan made at the world menu or through the FMC. The default ones i’m not sure but you can for sure make a plan in the world map with start gate, Arr/dep runway and sids and stars which will be loaded into the plane.

If you’re looking to input everything on the FMC, all you’ll need to do is pick your start location (gate or ramp), power up the plane and do the needful.

The FBW a320 is probably a good start if you’re new to tubeliner flying. It’s got plenty of depth and lets you set up flights in the world map and manually in the FMC. That all said, ignore the in-game ATC when flying tubeliners. Just fly the thing (or get on vatsim if you’re into that kind of thing)

To add to this, you can download your FP From SB and import it through the world map if the plane doesn’t have a native SB integration

One thing to keep on mind, if you’re relying on the in sim ATC, then you need to make sure you create the plan there. Otherwise it won’t know what’s going on.

I fly on Vatsim or sue Pilot2ATC so my flight plans get filed over there.

How do you tell if a plane has native SB integration?

I’ve been trying to import a flight plan from SB into MSFS with a 737-900. I can load it from the World Map or even from the pause menu while on the runway (have to type *.pln in the filename box to display it in the file open dialog box), but nothing shows up in the FMC.

Is there a way to make it work?

For the most part each developer will mention whether or not the plane has simbrief integration.

^ should be what you’re looking for.

Pmdg uses a separate type file all together and those get placed into a specific folder where your 737 is installed, Then you load the flight in the FMC as a company route. That is why your .pln file weren’t working on the pmdg

If you have Navigraph and the Ingame panel installed you can import the SB Flightplan and use it for MSFS ATC. Only think todo on the Worldmap is to set Departure Airport and gate. I Do it this way the whole time and it works nearly flawless.
