I have a question about setting up a dedicated 6e router for FS24. If I understand, the concept is to remove all other wireless data (other PC, phones, streaming TV) that could be slowing FS24’s streaming. In my case I have an internet provider that rents me a 5e main router. All household traffic operates through this one router. If I then hardwire that router to a second (dedicated 6e router) and then hardwire that second router to my PC, I should have a no stutter experience for FS24. The thing I don’t get is the original signal from the main router is still 5e and still dealing with all the household traffic. The second dedicated router is just another household streaming requirement that pulls from the lesser 5e main router. How does the extra router benefit the sim?
I should also mention I fly exclusively in VR using Q3 with VD and my GPU is RTX3090.
It doesn’t. In fact, you are adding additional unnecessary overhead that would only make performance worse.
Does your existing routing have a QoS option? If so, you can try giving gaming the highest priority. Some routers even allow you to prioritize a particular device, so you could give your Xbox priority.
You understand it wrong. The whole concept of dedicated router for Quest 3 is to maximise wireless connection speed and minimise latency between PC and Q3. It does not matter how fast is your connection to MSFS servers, it’s the link between headset and PC that matters.
Like the others said, the only benefit will be the connection between the PC and Q3. If that is your concern, I would consider getting a good quality Wi-Fi 6e or better router and run that in place of the rental. I’ve done that with a Q3 with no problem on my regular Wi-Fi 6 Deco W6000 router and with many other devices on the network. That would at least save you money over time by no longer renting a router (and those are often bottom of the barrel anyway).
Actually, without knowing it, I think that is what I was trying to define and understand. I see now that I misunderstood the promotion of the 6e router. Now I see that it’s just to enhance my Q3 to PC through VD. Thank you all for your very helpful comments.
