Severe mouse issues on XBX lately (Nov 2024)

:white_check_mark: SIM INFORMATION

This is vital information for our test team, please do not skip it or your issue may not be able to be reproduced or fixed.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024:

MSFS 2020

the latest and current build as of early Nov 2024 but it should be noted that this same build has NOT had this mouse issue until recently so I assume something was changed on my XBox (XBox update).
I see this bug has been reported and also closed as ‘Wont fix’ because it wasn’t reproducible but the team should try again in earnest for a time because whereas the problem affected me 1% of the time in the past, it now affects me 80% of the time. 80% of the time

  • Game Platform (Exampe: Steam, Xbox, MS Store):

XBox Series X MS Store version (non gamepass version)

:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

  1. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes. its default install with only World and City Update “3D Photogrammetry cities” and “Procedural buildings”. no POIs or airports or trips or challenges installed.

  1. Description of the issue:

The issue for me is that the mouse axis do not work in game. The mouse appears to always work until you get to the screen where it currently advertises the latest World Update and its then that the mouse disappears completely for a short time and then when it re appears, it may or may not function correctly. Note that I can use the X Box controller to move the cursor over something and then left mouse click to actiavte it so the mouse is still being recognized. Also, in the controller options its recognized and Ive tried reapplying the default mouse settings but that doesnt help. Only restarting the game (sometimes several times lately) gets the mouse back.

:white_check_mark: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you? (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)

Extremely often as of early Nov 2024. 80% of the time - most startups of the game - and note that you must get to the main menu to see it

:white_check_mark: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue.

  1. Start X Box
  2. Start Fs20 cold (not from Quick Resume)
  3. Wait till you get to the main menu screen.

:white_check_mark: YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

  1. What peripherals are currently plugged in? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict.

I have an X Box X with the controller that came with it and then a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse combo model MK270

  1. [PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?
  1. [PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?
  1. [PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use?
  1. [PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

The only workaround I’ve found for this issue is to launch the YouTube app. Then using the Xbox side menu go back to MSFS and quick resume the same session you just left. The swap between YouTube and the sim reconnects mouse navigation.

I will try it but in testing the issue, I already tried running the Edge browser on X Box and the mouse works fine there but still won’t work in the sim. Considering when I lose mouse control, I think its tied to online account settings of some kind.

The MS edge workaround used to work. It doesn’t anymore, the only ‘trick’ now to get mouse navigation back is the YouTube switch. It works 99.8% of the time for me. Good luck :crossed_fingers:t3:

Can confirm, YouTube is the only solution although putting FS into quick resume also increases chances of CTDs and Black Avionics.

I’m still taken aback they removed that bug thread and stated Asobo “cannot replicate.” The gaslighting is WILD. So we are all crazy?

“Unfortunately after testing many times with both wireless and wired mice, the team is not able to reproduce this issue. Closing as won’t fix.”

My peripherals are sensitive to the order in which I power them on. I have to turn on the mouse first and keyboard last, otherwise the mouse becomes unresponsive. Try experimenting with this.

Same issue from time to time. Can’t reproduce it though. I connect the keyboard also only after the mouse, otherwise very likely no mouse anymore.
When the mouse is not working I need to restart the Sim.

My mouse (wired into series X) often just either stops operating at the main screen or oart way into a flight. My keyboard also wired will work for typing such as searching icao or keybindings but wont function for keybindings until ive unplugged it and plugged it in again. But only on the first flight of a session.
The inconsistency is farcical ive even added it to my preflight checklist

Yes, frequent mouse in-ops recently. At times, have to close down X-Box and restart 3-4 times before mouse becomes operable.

The mouse is unusable. Its all over the place. Tried everything from unplugging all the peripherals to restarting the sim and restarting the xbox

Same problem here. Would like to use the mouse next to my Airbus Sidestick.
Makes it unusable like that.

Report please if you have found a fix!

Apart from the free look mouse issue, I have a problem when I switch to instrument view. The pointer momentarily disappears while moving the mouse. Pretty much unusable when trying to make adjustments in instrument view. Cockpit view camera is not affected by this issue.

I have the same issue.
Not playable on XBOX.

I have a small wireless keyboard with a trackball built in.
MSFS recognises the keyboard but not the trackball(mouse).
Without an ability to adjust my HOTAS sensitivities it’s all rather difficult.
