Tonight, this very annoying bug is back in the Alps
Now the culprits are tree models “BetulaPapyrifera” and “Betula_Dead”, all 5 variations :
Note again this is MSFS 2024 fresh reinstall empty community folder. What can I do ?

It’s slightly getting back today (unfortunately I’m in SU2 Beta .18). Not as hard as few days but definitely the bug appears again on autogen trees. I think it’s related to the Cache and Graphical Settings (High ↔ Ultra> as I was playing this those lately. Need more investigation.
EDIT: After taking the previous screenshot, I close MSFS and delete manually the cache file (ROLLINGCACHE.CCC). Then, relaunch MSFS and the box/frame around autogen trees disappeared.
The tree issue seems to be gone on my end, at least for now. I tried different regions and couldn’t find any wrong tree and my performances are back to normal. I did clear the rolling cache but I did it at least 2 times before (plus 3 reinstalls of MSFS). So that might not be the solution. I think we should keep this thread open to monitor this potential bug.
It’s strange that is only happening to few people, specially since the core tree models files comes from servers and not locally. I didn’t see any of these issues myself.
It’s just a guess but how about choosing another server in the sim settings? It could be that maybe a server tree files are corrupted. Make sure you delete the rolling cache file too.
Regarding the cache and recreating it, it seems to solve my issue but not @CroixPaille2451 one The server seems to be a good hint as several users, acting here, seems to be french based on their nickname (or Canadian? Belgian?), so the “West Europe” server would be culprit if setting is set to automatic. But I did switch tests when the bug appeared for the first time last week and it didn’t solve anything.
I suggest we keep these two hints for further investigation : change server and/or delete/recreate the cache (.CCC)
I stumbled across this topic and I have a question. Are the polygons/boxes around trees in my pictures normal for MSFS 2024? I did take these from the ground, but they look like this from the air too. This is a new computer with a clean install from about 6 weeks ago, I haven’t customized or added anything. This is my first flight sim since the 2000 edition, so the graphics are much better than what I have ever seen but I have to admit seeing these goofy trees is a little disappointing.
Welcome back to flight simulation.
The blocky trees you are seeing are not the same bug. Those are related to photogrammetry areas. 3d images are created with real aerial imagery (a plane flying over taking shots) then mixed together to get this photoreal landscape. Because of their shapes, trees are very hard to capture for a camera flying over.
Those photogrammetric landscapes are very realistic when seen from 1500 ft. or above though. And there are mods that locally clean these messed up trees where it counts (like approaching airports when you have to fly low)
Enjoy this new era of flight sim. The jump from FS2000 is probably quite impressive.
Those pics could be some “Art Installation”…
I can see some artist placing giants painted cardboards around the city, blurring the line between reality and virtual reality…
Calling for a reflection about the reality we live in…
Those are the photogrammetry “tree spikes” and were present on 2020 also - but the old bad autogen-type big broccoli trees have decreased in number making these more prominent - the best remedy is the continuously updating Bijan seasons program, where he is hand-placing the geographically appropriate trees and has seasonal vegetation changes, and removing these spikes. However, for sure, it would still be great if MSFS 2024 could fix its “tree problem”. I do love the new ground level realistic stuff, when I crash, or fly low in my ultralights and helicopters.
Following the forum rules, please only post here to contribute about the bug initially reported.
It does contibute to the bug mentioned - the tree spikes.
I appreciate you wan’t to contribute but this topic is about a graphical bug affecting autogen trees, not photogrammetry, even though the result looks kind of similar. If you take a closer look, you’ll notice they are 2 different things.
There are other threads on the forum where you can report/discuss the rendering of PG trees.
I just wan’t to keep this one focused on the subject. Either way, we are only supposed to post here using the template provided. As thoses bugs reports are used by devs to try reproduce and fix the bugs. Thanks for understanding.
I am thinking that as a server-side issue. I did try going to a different server. Same issue, actually, I moved my rolling cache last night because it was on a different drive that I wanted it to be on and the issue is still there.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes

The trees will return to normal as you approach them, but turn back into boxes when you walk away

If someone wants to test something, I was searchign for a solution for another issue I had with missing taxi lines and came across a solution. I dont have time at the moment to give this a try if someone else wants to try it until I can. If you go to the “StreamedPackages” folder in your MSFS 2024 install folder and find anything listed as Fauna or trees or vegitation etc. The folders will look like “fs24-Asobo-modellib-vegetation” and MOVE out of that folder and start the sim to check to see if something got borked in the stream information download? I will try later this evening.
Just tried removing fs24-Asobo-modellib-vegetation from streamedpackages and it didn’t solve the problem

Could it be the same as this Severe problem : boxes around autogen trees - #26 by Swampbuggyguy
It might be! It started about the same time too about 7 days ago. The trees return to normal as I approach them. It’s like the texture map gets attached to an invisible box outside the tree. At a distance they look like perfect boxes, but as I get close the box fades and the normal tree returns. I did try a tree removal download the day this started, but removed it once I saw the blocks. I removed it from the community folder and the issue persisted, I then completely emptied my community folder and disabled any add-ons from the marketplace
