Severe Problems on Xbox After Sim Update 9

New problem for me. This is on PC. In Content Manager, if you remove an aircraft, it looks like it did it. The aircraft is not in the list. But about 2 minutes after you do that action, the game freezes, you can’t do any action. About 20% of the time, there will be an illegal memory access exception.

If you kill the sim, look in the OneStore directory, the aircraft you remove is still there. It doesn’t even have the “.delete_0” appended to the end of the directory name. You can remove airports and liveries and scenery fine. Just not aircraft. It will kill the sim every time.

NOTE: This is with the new “hotfix”

I downloaded the update last night and gave the A320 a hop from Phoenix to Houston.

The world map didn’t freeze on me but the “cursor getting stuck in the white boxes” was still there. Take off was fine and for 80% of the flight problem free..

Close to descent the display which shows the route froze when I tried to increase/decrease the range.

Still, ATC can guide me down..

Closer to the ground the display “unfroze” and started to work again (maybe it just needed deicing…) and on final approach I got the good ol’ CTD.

The game felt more stable but in my experience, far from fixed.

I mentioned it another thread about the fact that this is where we are in current era with stuff like this. 1+Gb update and what did it do for us generally?

Fixed weird flicker reflections, a mild improvement at best to the menu, still poor in general and no sign of the download notification going away for me anyway. The ATC was and is still inconsistently performing.

We need to have this conversation now I think. I use the example of our phones. I have very little on my phone but wow it can be excessive with how frequent and how many updates stack up over only a week. Looking at how insignificant some fixes are, it doesn’t matter to them as they just do it anyway. This kind of approach may be annoying but it’s not like we’d have to download the whole game again. It surely wouldn’t be so bad would it? I don’t like it but this where we are now with everything tech related.

@blitzben85 it’s looking more and more like the sim hates people using glass panel planes huh.

Hi, 100% agree.

  1. WORLD MAP is still very HIT/MISS.
  2. Notification badge still showing.
  3. Ages to load from World Map.
  4. YES the flicker has gone.
  5. Once up very smooth flight (UK).
  6. Landing OK but as soon as I Taxi to parking (C172) CTD x 3

G1000 version right?

After a few hours on MSFS and constant crashes on the X Box last night, I’ve finally decided to switch to PC, I feel the X Box version is beyond repair now and all I want to do is fly with out gear of the game crashing an hour into the flight

Done some very limited testing since hotfix on my Xbox X.
Phantom download still there
World Screen seems a little better. - I haven’t had a CTD so far -but still nowhere near as smooth as SU8.
Stuttering not quite as bad in the three VFR flights I’ve made - improvement? Maybe but needs further checking
Flickering windscreen. - fixed. Much better..
IFR and longer flights - TBC - need to fire up the TBM for a couple of longer flights

MS/Asobo. You should be more than embarrassed by this situation. When MSFS works properly on my Xbox the UX is phenomenal and it’s much smoother feeling than my older 5-yr old gaming laptop. Anyone seeing MSFS running on it before SU9 would want MSFS and if they weren’t interested in flight sim, it would have made them rush out and buy an Xbox.
No longer the case after SU9 and I don’t think this hotfix has fixed enough to make it better ( will confirm in a couple of days)You are going to lose customers, the Top Gun DLC may well tank as a result ( you guys deserve that after presiding over this fiasco) and all trust in the developers has gone due to an inexcusable lack of communications with your clients.
I don’t want to have to spend hours of my time every time an SU comes out debugging, testing, fiddling, to put it right - just in time for the arrival of the next SU.
It’s turned more into a SW development simulator than a flight simulator.
You guys need to stop your roadmap, fix your processes and spend as much time as it needs get this product stable for all users, PC and Us on the Xbox.
When MSFS works, it’s a wonderful UX but to be honest SU9 has given us the new “feature” of overdone turbulence which is a detraction most of the time, at the cost of a pretty broken UX for a a lot of us - pretty much all of us on Xbox.
Please start afresh today and make it work again for us all.

What exactly are you basing that on? Are you experiencing more thermal turbulence than you experience when you go flying in a small GA aircraft in real life under similar conditions and time of year\day? How much do you think it should be toned down?

I had two flights in the A320 post SU9 Hotfix, short routes about 1.5hr each, and except for the ND range STILL freezes, even after disabling wheather radar on turn on TERRAIN ND, those 2 flights were flawless.

The ND range freeze must almost certainly be connected with the latest AIRAC, wich i hope get fixed next week because it has to be updated again.

But, i’m far from optimistic because today it can be easily the other way around. Been there too many times lately, but let’s see.

The only positive in my opinion is that we got this Hotfix now, instead of waiting for SU10 or something. They are working on it, let’s just hope they focus on the most important things.

Absolutely in daytime conditions for UK - it’s definitely OTT for a GA aircraft - more realistic ( to real world daytime day in UK) when the sim is switched to early evening. I used to be an FAA Aircraft dispatcher and have done a lot of flying - as an observer - and I know my aviation weather.. it’s a difficult feature IMO to get right so at minimum it should be adjustable with option for training to turn off completely.
But the point is that the introduction of this feature which does nothing ( or if you enjoy this turbulence) very little to improve the overall UX, has come at a very high cost when you look at the scale of the problems that SU 9 has introduced.

Soon after release it used to be like that. As you would expect, and if you look back through the posts from that time, you will see there were many different opinions on this.

Many were annoyed that the regular updates kept breaking addons, leading to the 3PD’s regularly playing catch-up.

Others thought the aggressive cadence led to more buggy updates as there was not enough time to fully test the patches, which led to more hotfixes in between.

Logbook - some flights still not recording SOME hours or landings =/

Just completed my 3rd flight since the update on the 32N. Everything fine until approach into Palma. Had selected an ILS approach but when joining approach was given a visual landing. ILS not working in this instance. Everything apart from that was ok. Weather was on my side or this would probably have been a wasted flight. First time this has happened regarding ATC not following what I had pre chosen

I think the key thing to frequent bug fix updates is to restrict them explicitly to bug fixes, saving any new features or addon breaking changes to the planned sim updates.

New features need the beta testing, CTD and other regular bug fixes don’t need much testing and are unlikely to break users or addons, but delivering them promptly can make a huge difference to user’s experience when it’s as unstable as it is now.

If this is the only patch release and we have to wait until SU10 for any more fixes -and who knows what else to break - then this is simply not enough.

There has to be some middle ground to reach here. I definitely wouldn’t want devs overwhelmed nor was I suggesting anything too robust in regards to the scope/size of hotfixes, just to clear that up. Nothing greater than what we just got I reckon seems alright.

@xjay12347406 this problem has been around for a long while and as strange as it sounds, not SU9’s fault haha. It comes and goes with me so I’ve had to learn to live with it unfortunately. No fix in sight I’m afraid.

For IFR training I use the missed approach procedures at SJU. I’m learning to fly a DME arc using live weather with the G1000 and that’s great training. The LOC, GS and VOR at SJU are working nicely. ATC is broken everywhere so I ignore it except for getting ATIS.

For VFR there’s nothing more fun than landing at St. Barth. The last 60 seconds are a thrill. Except the MSFS scenery has some tall trees at the top of the hill that are obstructions. Those should be removed because they don’t exist in the real world. I’ve found that kind of obstructions present in many airports making landings more difficult than they should be.

XBOX Series X (without any 3rd party add-ons)

Yes, on that front I would agree. Smaller, more regular patches that are laser like in their precision. They would be aimed at fixing only one or two niggling problems. A smaller subset of potential fixes should make testing them easier, hopefully with an increased chance of the fix actually being 100% effective.

I had previously advocated a Quality of Life type update that fixed up all those tiny niggles that have been around for months, and in some cases since release. Getting those little things out the way, like the mouse freelook issues, negative mouse acceleration, map screen search dialogue entry activation etc. won’t fix anyone’s stability issues or improve performance, but they would go a hell of a way to making the sim more enjoyable to use.

It’s clear that they have a feature roadmap and are going to stick with it, so I don’t think a big bug fix only SU is going to happen. This patch we just had was a good patch, but by itself it’s just scraping the surface, if they could have a team doing this and delivering one every couple of weeks with a few bug fixes each time then we’ll see a real turnaround from what we have now.

SU8 and to a certain degree 9 were meant to be bug only centred updates. 8 was the “Bug Update” and 9 was supposed to be the “Stability Update”. That’s how I interpreted it and surely can’t be alone in this.
