Shimmering has been the least of my problems. However i notice much less than previous.
The new nvidia driver update (had to install it twice for it to work properly), shows improvement, however now I’m getting some terrible micro-stutters with a black screen flash between. Starts out real smooth, then after about 20 minutes it starts to do the jaggies as i look around. If i keep my head still, the sim is butter smooth, so its the interplay between the G2 and MSFS, not our hardware or something we did or didn’t do. Enough BS already, fix it properly already Asobo!!!
In addition to the brightness, I’ve been noticing a black ring around the sun for a while now. Similar to an eclipse.
In any weather condition and only in VR (Quest 2).
Does anyone notice the same?
Haven’t noticed a black ring around sun. There is a line that shows across the landscape just above the horizon. It’s noted on the VR Wish list, not given a fix date (tbd).
I changed one setting in NCP…LOD to “clamp”, and stutters and jaggies seem to have vanished!!
What do you mean by install it twice? Clean install the second time or…?
Yes. I read that some found uninstalling and reinstalling helped. It did for me too. I did do a clean install. However, as usual I find that the judders are back, as they always return. Especially in dense city areas. And my fps drops now which is new. Must be the driver.
Microsoft/Asobo stumbled today when asked about VR support. They were very hesitant and couldn’t really answer the question. But mentioned about great improvements, but for next year.
Okay so I just watched this video and I have two things to say about it.
First, when he talks about switching the ‘Background Application Max Frame Rate’ over to 20 FPS. This is not something that I agree with as there is major speculation out there that claims that Windows utilizes MSFS as a Background App and not necessarily is considered a Desktop App. This makes me think that it may limit MSFS to 20fps (or whatever limiting fps we set) because Windows thinks MSFS is a Background App but am not sure but will check today.
Secondly, which pertains to what we were talking about above is, when he says to use the Adaptive setting under ‘Power Management Mode’. This is something that can be set to Adaptive in Global Settings IF you individually set power limits to individual programs. So I set my individual Microsoft games like MSFS (Under Microsoft App) to specifically have the GPU use more power when it’s being used or have another Desktop game ike AMS 2 to be used (As a Desktop App) and adjust their power individually.
This allows the PC to use minimal power on all programs other then the ones that you specifically point at to use more GPU power to.
I use this guide and it explains it perfectly under Graphics Performance Preference but, I highly recommend reading the whole thing.
