Should I get Air Manager and a Knobster?

Have ordered the honeycomb bravo and alpha units. Do you feel I’ll have added use if I buy air manager and a knobster as the bravo has an auto pilot control unit built in?

The beauty of Air Manager really shines if you have touch screens, also really depends on which Aircraft you fly if there are panels and instruments available.

Here’s a few of my Air Manager setups, those are all touch screens, with 2 knobsters mounted on the side of each of the 15.6" panels in the front.

Does Air Manager support other types of rotary encoder? I’ve seen some great looking bits of kit recently.

For sure it does, lots of DIY options (that are much cheaper than theirs). You still us Air Manager to flash it but I’ve never done it personally.

@Sling380 could probably shed some light on that.

I guess the whole point of Air Manager is you don’t really need to have a bank of rotary encoders as you tap on the screen which one you wish to adjust. I’m trying to find the piece of kit I was referring to, but not having any luck. You effectively buy a board without any switches on it, and they sell these little modules where you can two or three pole switches, single or dual rotary encoders, momentary switches in almost any combination you can think of. You could fill it with rotary encoders, and have each one dedicated to a particular task, and you wouldn’t need to tap the screen to change focus.

I found the link:

A single Dual Encoder is only £18, whereas Knobster is about 5 times that.

Have ordered 2 15.6" touchscreens. Will give AM and the Knobster a shot. Why are you using 2 knobsters?

Just personal preference.

Some of my buddies run 4 (on on each touch screen). Just saves you from reaching across.

Example. Overhead panel touch the knob on the touchscreen then the knobster is right there to turn. Not looking back down to use one mounted off to the side somewhere.

Each Knobster gets assigned a letter and you can then assign each knobster to a panel.

I run 2 so all screens on the left are knobster A while all screens on the right are knobster B.

Just less reaching around really.

In those pics did you create those panels? Say the one which shows the PFD, MFD, FCU, EFIS, Tiller etc?

No, the Fenix A320 is a freeware conversion project and available on GIT.

The CRJ also a freeware project available on GIT and Sininnovations site.

I do have lots of payware ones as well from ExperimentalSimAvionics

Sorry but what is GIT?

GITHUB.

Thanks again for the help. Another question - do you use the tiller with the knobster? If so, is it better than using rudder pedals? I cant seem to get smooth turns with rudder pedals.

I have the Thrustmaster airbus sidestick mounted on my chair, that I use when flying the Airbus obviously, but I also use the twist axis as the tiller on all other aircraft with a tiller steer.

I meant have you tried using this tiller with the knobster? Is it functional?
