Should I pull the trigger on this NVME SSD?

Hey all,

Found this Crucial 1TB SSD for $83 on Newegg.

Should I get it or wait for cyber Monday.

In my opinion it’s not a bad deal. I’m not sure if the c/m sale will have lower prices as the retailers still want to make a profit.

Does anybody else have any opinions?

looks like a solid drive for the price. Haven’t heard anything bad about Crucial either, so if you want it, go for it.

I’d spend the extra $50 and get a Samsung.

I’ve got something called a floppy disk for sale. It’s got lots of memory, goes really fast AND you can use it to run programs too apparently.

Though saying that I keep getting errors about insufficient space but that can’t be possible because it’s got 512k. That’s an enormous amount, so it must be a computer keyboard error or something.

Anyway, it’s yours for $35, postage and packing $5 extra. Can’t say fairer than that Squire, know what I mean?

Do your research, looks for fast read/write speeds like the corsair 1TB NVMe M.2 SSD (force series MP600)
or the slighly slower and cheaper Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB

I haven’t looked at the Crucial drive(s), but I’ve been using Samsung SSDs for around 10 years and I have never had a problem. I’m currently running 2 500Gb M.2s, 2 250GB 2" and one 120Gb which is 9 years old.

He was looking at a 82 dollar M.2 NVME drive, and you’re pointing him to a 200 dollar one? Sure, it’s faster, but if he doesn’t need that extra speed, it’s hardly worth paying 120 dollars more. Hell, get 2 of the crucial ones and you’re still cheaper off. Might even be able to stick them in raid.

not bad deal but does games load faster from NVME comparer to SSD

depends on the speed of the SSD and the speed of the NVME.

NVME have the potential to go a lot faster due to their interface (PCI-E 3 or 4). The specific NVME drive (and your motherboard) need to able to utilize that though.
There’s slower NVME drives on the market as well, so it’s always worth to look up the specs.

In general, for games, it makes a bit of difference. Whether the saved time is worth the extra cash is up to you in the end

For me the biggest bonus of an NVME drive is that it slots right into the motherboard, so it’s less cables running around (have a m-ITX build myself).

You’re right but it also depends a lot from game engine and e.g if coded for faster loading speeds

Hey I really appreciate everybody’s opinions and suggestions. I went ahead and pulled the trigger and bought the crucial P2 1 TB SSD. I think it’s gonna be a great addition to my new computer.
And I’m excited to say that this was the very first purchase of my build!!

I appreciate the offer but I’ll stick with the SSD. I have heard that those floppy disks make excellent frisbees though!!

I went ahead and bought it anyway, so if I don’t use it now I can always use it in the future. I still will be looking on cyber Monday.
Thank you.

I also plan on putting this SSD as close to the CPU as possible because I heard that the closer to the CPU the SSD is the less latency it has or delay between reading and writing data transfers

Check read/write speeds. They all differ. I payed £189 for mine and its fast. Dont buy a slow one. Waste of money.

The one above I just ordered is 2400 MBps Read and 1800 MBps Write. Is that go enough for FS2020?

I would use it for these sweet transfer rates already.

I’ve got the details of exactly the same NVMe card sitting on my desk in front of me right now, waiting to see if there are any deals going shortly but whatever I’ll probably go for it if only to look after my growing collection of addons - now up to 200GB!

I’m good with Samsung, have lots of theit stuff around the house including an new 27" curved monitor which is mind-blowing compared to what I had before. But I’ve also used Crucial a lot too, their website is clear and helpful and has a system checker that will advise what is the best upgrade for you. I got my first SSD through them (a Samsung which they did actually recommend) and was so pleased with the change of performance from the old SATA 1TB hard disk I upgraded two old laptops which are now flying machines in comparison.

Yes there are faster cards around - if you really feel you need to spend a lot of cash for what is really only marginal performance improvement. I’m not such a perfectionist though.
