Sidewinder 2 force feedback with Xpforce

After adding a Thrustmaster TPR to my configuration MSFS crashes to desktop shortly after starting with XPForce.
Without the TPR plugged in, MSFS starts normally via XPForce.
After plugging in the TPR again MSFS exits to desktop.
Anyone using the same combination?
Any ideas for a solution? Thanks!

hi, i own a microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 but i cannot find xpforce program on the web, can you give some more informations on where can i find it?

Seems today we discovered it’s been shut down

BUT I have found it in archive via Way Back Machine.

problem is without a serial code it will only be a 7 (or 14) day trial I think.

@Yfl411 tagging you as you may be interested too?

Not sure of my facts here, but I believe that the new FFB Simionic yoke uses XPforce for the software side of things, sooooo
if this new £1,000 device is up for sale it must have a few clues as to where one would obtain current software.

I currently use the FFB Logitech G940 ( I have 2 complete systems) and XP Force with no issues, but my guilty secret yearning for 2024 is going to be the Brunner yoke. Just dont tell the other half. Yet

If you have school age children, get them interested in aviation and then justify it as an educational expense

She will be in the loop soon  Even I blanch at the price!

Just got myself and FF2 and tried the XPforce trial. My problem is that when I push the joystick there is a lot of force around the center and than it just lets got as soon as I move it a bit further out and I just hit it to the wall. As soon as XPforce is disabled the FF2 works fine again, but as a regular joystick.

Tried disabling the alternate trim and the different turbulence sliders but to no avail, can’t feel a difference. The program also slows down and freezes a lot when changing settings.

@Baracus250 You seem knowledgeable with this. Any tips?

Sorry missed this question!

Hmm
not sure I quite understand what you mean, but there is a bug that makes the PITCH forces the OPPOSITE of what they should be, so it pushes the stick to the extreme when the plane is changing pitch and speeding up, when it should be making the force stronger to the centre.

The “Fix” is on the Effects tab to make the Wind Turbulence slider to zero (completely off
the bottom slider I am not on my PC now but I think that is what it’s called) – as that seems to be being interpreted wrongly. Have you tried that?

Don’t know what you mean about that either. You mean when XPF window is in focus, your Sim slows down? Or what slows down? Interaction with sliders? I have not seen this problem.

Thanks for the answers! For the first one it basically only apply force towards the center right round the center, but as soon as I push it slightly beyond that in any direction it just flops the stick to the edges. Might be the wind turbulence, even though I tried to zero?

For the second one, the XPF window turn really sluggish and sometimes freezes completely or can’t get back up again. Like slow enough to make it hard to click while the sim is just working perfectly. If it freezes or if I have to force close it I lose all XPF until a sim restart. Could it be Win11?

OK I get you. That totally does describe what I had in PITCH (forward and backward) behaviour but not left and right so I’m not really sure why you’re getting that.

I will send you one of my profiles that I know works fine just to eliminate that you have some weird setting. Can’t right now as I’m still not on my PC lol

I am using Win11 so no, it’s not the reason. Hmm very odd. Something just sounds wrong in your setup so maybe both problems are connected but I have never seen anything like it so really unsure what to advise to try next! Let me think

EDIT: have you tried running as Administrator?
Just to see if it behaves any differently.

I’m thinking it might be a .net related thing. Do you know how to find the tool for refreshing those?

Also may be worth running a Windows health check and SFC Scan.

Tried to null every setting but before I was able too it froze again.

Does yours show up as a genereic 4 axis etc device in Windows and the sim?

It did on my old PC but new one it says SideWinder whatever there.

I think I figured out the main thing causing XPF to slowdown, freeze and crash. I have vJoy installed and had the standard setup in it which had Force Feedback enabled. Probably had the Sidewinder and vJoy fighting each other.

So now I am down to getting the settings right. Still have some weird behavior with the forces but at least I can troubleshoot now.

I have gotten it working better but it still basically does rythmically or random throwing the joystick to the side, especially bad when taxiing on the ground. As soon as I close XPforce the issues disappear.

I managed to track it down to the the last settings page in XPforce where the “Joystick active” grayes out everytime it does that wierd twitch. So something makes XPforce and the Sidewinder lose some kind of connection.

Even with all the sliders on the effects tab at zero? The ground acceleration, wheel shimmer, bumpiness etc. All of those to the far left.

Is it the same in every aircraft?

May be worth you trying this software. It’s on my list of things to try. Heard a good thing or 2 about it but not got round to setting it up yet.

Yep, I tried to turn everything down but the “Joystick active” still flickers off at times.

Is the stick plugged into the motherboard USB direct, or via a Hub?

Did you try the .net repair thing?
