Significant frame rate issues with VR

Hello,

I’ve been using my Oculus quest 2 headset with FS2020 for some time, but the frame rate is really unmanageable. The frame rate has never been perfect but it’s got a lot worse recently. I did unfortunately upgrade to windows 11 and now regret it, I may have to revert back. I play other VR games from my PC perfectly with great frame rates, but with FS2020 the frame rates are awful. I use a USB C cable from the headset to the PC, but it stutters all the time, even the audio stutters and breaks in and out. I turn my head and its just a huge delay before the picture catches up. During the stuttering the game is almost crashing, if I press esc it gets ignored if its mid stutter, so I’m almost not thinking its graphics issue but some other sort of issue. My PC plays fs2020 perfectly not in VR but VR has huge isses. Not the best card its an 1660TI but should be able to cope and play smoothly. Any ideas?

Are you using the OpenXR Toolkit? OpenXR Toolkit (upscaling, world scale, hand tracking...) - Release thread - #2539 by RomanDesign

I am in the same boat and I use the OpenXR with Quest 2 . I have to pray that I get good Frame rates when I’m ready to fly in VR. One day its fine and the next its like I am on a Atari.

I had the same problem with my 1660 super. used a USB C cable ant then I noticed that the cable was pluged into a USB 2. Once moved it into a usb 3 socket everything was working fine.

No I’ve not used that will give it a try, but I dont think it will fix the issues, for me its not just a bit of performance tweaking, its unplayable at times

Thats what its like for me, it seems to happen less often with small aircraft with no glass cockpit, seems to happen more when planes have glass cockpit, but still inconsistent, sometimes C208 is fine, othertimes it is awful, and the A320 always seems to be ok. Cant figure out what could be causing it.

I will test this and see, I only have one USB C on the front of my PC which should be USB 3 but who knows  There is a cable test thing in oculus which I’ll try

check that “encode bitrate” (it’s called something like that) is set to 500 in the oculus debug tool.

I moved my cable from the front USB to the one in the back.

Checked the USB cable and oculus said it was all fine, tried tweaking some settings in FS2020 and surprisingly Anti Aliasing made a huge difference when changing it to FXAA. By default its at highest performance, by setting it to FXAA its lower performance setting and instantly reduced the stuttering in the king air. Will see how it goes. Other graphics changes didnt have a significant effect.

Somebody told me that with Quest 2 you have to use OpenVR instead of OpenXR. I have no idea why.

Please ensure that you use the USB3 connector on the back of your rig if possible. Most rigs have blue USB3 connectors on the back. Avoid the front if possible. In MSFS “VR” settings, Try turning down the resolution (rendering) to something like 75%, and reduce other settings to “low” or “medium”. Turn off photogrammetry. Yeah, its going to look a bit fuzzy, but we’ll fix that after we determine whats causing the performance issues. Use a simple, stock aircraft like the Icon , vs a more demanding add-on. Pick a rural airport and do some test flights, and see how it performs.

The trick is to see which of these settings has the most impact on your particular hardware. Find an acceptable frame rate, and then turn up settings to find a good balance between visuals and performance.

OpenXR is now the standard. OpenVR was replaced by XR.

Have a slower GPU than you! GTX1660 Super

What you think about this results?

It’s not in English but Use the subtitles ,I carefully revised them
