Sim always defaults to "windowed"

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Ive even looked through cfg files to see if its been changed in them if its been updated but I cant see anything to change the value of but it happens everytime I start up since the last upgrade

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

Ive changed it to fullscreen and it doesnt retain that setting

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Will SU15 also fix the CTD issue that using alt-enter or trying to adjusting settings causes? The sim is essentially unusable since this issue cropped up this week, as changing any settings seems to result in a CTD…

Glad to see I’m not the only one having so much CTD these days while in the menus…

In b4 “misery loves company”

And by “fixed”’will they genuinely fix it by restoring the window to full screen mode after an update for those using full screen mode or will they just keep this loop from happening, leaving in the original bug that won’t restore to full screen mode after an update?

Inquiring minds and all that

No need to report anymore. From SeedyL’s dev blog:

Over the last several days, we’ve noticed many reports about an issue affecting PC players where the sim will always open in windowed mode even if full screen mode was set. Players using both the regular release build and the SU_15 beta build are affected by this issue. The team has identified the source of this bug, and a fix will be coming with SU_15. In the meantime, the workaround to restore full screen mode is to set this option in your General Settings each time you launch the sim or simply press Alt+Enter on your keyboard.

I am seeing “Release Notes” message on the left buttom where Dune screens showing at the start when the game loading right after checking for updates 1sec popup, blue loading bar at the bottom but also it shows “Release Notes” message buttom left. Really strange issue. Sadly also effects VRR/gsync sometimes, i am stucking at 60fps on a 120hz LG C1 time to time. I had to restart PC. It sometimes stick to Fullscreen, sometimes windowed. I somehow managed to fix it, it was showing always Fullscreen on options also after each start, now it shows windowed again.

edit: Imgur: The magic of the Internet (ignore color etc on picture, hdr capture issue) You can see Release Notes on buttom left. Also strangely my reflections ingame began to rendered Delayed… It was all instantly showing while switching cameras. Now it takes almost 1 sec for them to load fully, it loads slowly. Deleting dx, nvidia caches, SceneryIndexes, Disk cleanup, nothing fixes it. All UserCfg.opt looks normal for reflection options. It feels like i am on xbox (i was experiencing this on xbox, but now i am on pc and it was working normally until this windowed issue, reflections was loading instantly while changing cameras) ReflectionProbe Size 256 SSR Enabled 1 HalfRes 0 Quality 3 . Tired of these bugs! Even on Hangar reflections takes 1 sec!

Yes, a little frustrating. Since the Dune expansion (which I have not downloaded) I am getting CTD’s at the main menu, dx errors, Doneio errors. And then this…windowed mode. I switch back to full screen and get a crash. No CTD’s for me in like several months…almost a year.

Same issue!

Why do users have to wait potentially for weeks for a fix to this? I assume it’s not a massive fix or undertaking. Just push it out to users if you know how it’s fixed.

yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

same as up

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

PSA for those who tried to fix this by setting their UserCfg.opt to read-only.
Make sure to uncheck that option, or your general settings won’t be saved when you exit the sim.

I credit @ScottMDA for that helpful bit of advice.

Sane here. Since the last update Msfs launches and after checking for updates continues in wiindowed mode, despite selecting fulscreen

This will be fixed in roughly 4 days time, whenever SU15 is released.

Is there anybody where this issue doesn’t happen to them on startup?

Yes you can add me to the list also

We know, but that should not be the solution.

Add me too

It isn’t, its a workaround for 4 days.
