I have to get rid of some negative vibes. Today the sim crashed after a seven hour flight only minutes before landing at the new HAAB scenery with the inibuilds A 350 on Vatsim. I have been flightsimming now for about 25 years and back then finishing a flight was pure luck (remember the OOM errors in FS 2004?).
Now, 25 years later, it still isn’t possible to reliably start a flight and finish it successfully. THAT IS FRUSTRATING !!! Sorry folks, just had to tell someone about it. This hobby is so ■■■■■■■■ time consuming and something goes wrong all the time. But I love it anyway…….. Have a nice weekend, folks!!!
I do indeed remember those days with FSX (and the endless config tweaking) but I can’t say I am coming across the same experience. I can’t even remember the last time MSFS 2024 crashed on me. For me personally I max out virtually everything and just play and it’s all peachy. Great performance also.
I envy you so much. You’re a lucky guy—there are few like you here. We all have the same “simulator,” yet it works differently for everyone; why is that?
I think it might be related to the system; MSFS is on the system drive and is tied to it. There has been an improvement since the latest Windows update.
Man t’es un ancien toi! yeap back in the days, to end a flight was a pure luck especially for long hauls! I definitely remember that! A flight KJFK/LFPG (B742 Just Flight), sleeping on the convertible sofa by night during the flight, I woke up early in the morning on purpose to prepare the descent checklist but … then on short final a “CTD OOM ERROR” kissed my joy to put it down right away!!! I will never forget the huge massive big time frustration!!!
At least it leaves behind fond memories, even 25 years later! … more than that because it was the time of my first steps in Flight School (LFPL (PPL 2003) and Toussus Le Noble (LFPN CPL 2005) Well, without FS2002 and FS2004 I never would imagined becoming a flyboy someday, so that tks to Microsoft Flight Simulator which creates vocations and this, despite the lack of realism in msfs 2024 (no “danger in the skies”, Live Weather must be the cornerstone of a flight sim to get a realistic picture of reality which is definitely not the case in msfs 2024 unfortunatelly, in RL you don’t want to fly a Cub in CB pal! too dangerous/unsafe! which is worst than a crash to the desktop lol)
Anwyays, I’m sure future real pilots are here on this forum but they still don’t know it yet! … it will come (CTD or not) ! We just have to believe in our dreams as much as possible despite the obstacles, a mountain becomes a mere hill to climb step by step
I’m on Windows 10 and have a mid PC. I’ve never experienced CTD’s. I use the PMDG 737 and some other scenery addons. Did multiple long haul flights with the 747, 12 to 13 hours, no issues.
Usually I fly the Fenix. That never causes CTDs. It is such a solid product. But the products from inibuilds aren´t as reliable as the Fenix. In most cases long haul flights end with the sim crashing. I´ve reinstalled the A 350 and deleted the WASM folder content. Flying the same route I flew yesterday right now. I hope I´m lucky today!
I’ve been playing FS since version FS4, and yes, I too have occasionally experienced complete crashes, and yes, I too have sometimes just come off a long flight.
But so what? It’s a very complex game for very little money. Even the highly complex and very expensive software in real Boeing or Airbus aircraft crashes from time to time. Yes, there are redundancies in place for that, but you have to create them yourselves for your game.
That sounds bad to me lol
The software in my car has never crashed. NEVER.
I’ve been a gamer for decades now. I don’t think I’ve ever run into one with as many problems as this. That said, this one doesn’t really crash for me either. It has - but very rarely.
I think Asobo is pretty sloppy and I think just saying it’s complex is giving them too much credit. Just look at launch of both the latest sims. They were complete disasters that few other developers would have handled so badly. Even EA and Activision who are among the most reviled in the industry are better than that. But many flight simmers are extremely forgiving and MSFS is kind of a monopoly so there’s not many other choices out there this specific.
Does your car have to simulate an airplane and its physics, live weather and its effects on the airplane, other traffic within the entire world in 4K? Then again, my game has also never crashed. NEVER. 1000+ hours btw.
He’s talking about actual systems in aircraft crashing. I’m saying aircraft shouldn’t be crashing IRL. I have no idea if the claim is true or not.
The car has to do things that are much more critical than the game - like save your life if someone stops in front of you, monitoring braking and acceleration thousands of times a second. I’m not sure I’d say that’s not similar. Modern cars do a lot of pretty advanced things. But it’s also on an enclosed system (like the aircraft I’d assume) that aren’t having to be contently updated or having dozens of other programs thrown into the background to possibly interfere.
I don’t have problems with MSFS crashing either, so that’s kinda immaterial to what I was saying. I’m convinced MSFS crashes are based on errors in people’s hardware and it’s a sensitive program. The sim is exactly the same for everyone. The only way someone gets more crashes than others is if there’s something interfering. That something can be many things. I’m certain if the people who have constant CTD’s ran advanced diagnostics, they’ll be having errors somewhere in their hardware. Even the best hardware throws errors.
