Since today every closing of MSFS 2024 on my PC (3 monitors) results in a Freeze of the sim. The desktop is visible but the sim stays active. Have to do a force ending in the Windows Task Manager and none of my settings are saved on XBox.
Did a full re-install of the sim with no mods. Still freezes
Hangs at restart flight, exit flight, quit to desktop. Tried reinstalling but since it can never quit properly, it never saves my setup preferences and makes me do the first time setup every single time I boot, BUT SURE Asobo - SEE YOU IN 2025!

Hurry up and fix this. It hangs everytime you leave the sim and you know it as much as we do. Shameful to charge us premium for a program that is not only ridden with bugs but can’t even interact with your own OS to close down properly. If that doesn’t say it all nothing else does.
Why didn’t you just own this debacle and call it what it is right from the start. EARLY ACCESS WITH BUGS and we may have taken this all on board with far less disdain at your lack of respect for the community.
As for this bug report it happens everytime you click return to desktop. Simple. Just fix it, what an embarrasment it must be to you, surely.
Same issue here - sim freezes if i end flight, go back to main menu or restart fligght. in each case it 100% of the time freezes and i need to force quit the sim.
Please fix this asap its atrocious! The Sim was so smooth and ran so nicely after patch 2 but now its basically back to square one for me.
Same here, with or without anything in the Community folder. I generally use the Steam library menu to right click and end it.
EDIT: that works about 10% of the time. Generally I have to kill the process, and if that doesn’t work, reboot.
Boeing 737 selected. Ended flight and wanted to exit 2024.
I did notice once that FS Realistic wasn’t ending so I manually stopped it and 2024 quit immediately after, so I thought that might be the culprit but that’s very inconsistent.
This just happened to me too. Hadn’t started it since about 1 week after release, it did a bunch of updates (video stuttered like crazy even on 7800x3d / 4090 / 64gb / 2TB Samsung 990 PRO nvme). I got a notification that some items had transferred from FS2020 (whatever they were, I only had the ultimate sub for it - now I have a steelbook purchase) and to restart to see what they were.
Tried to exit, but it’s just hanging. Will have to exit via task manager.
Same effect on a complete fresh win 11 system. I close MSFS24 via the menü, and it keeps running in the back (and then has to be closed via the task manager).
On startup it is stuck on loading language for over a minute each time. On exit, the main window closes but 2024 still runs in the background. It uses between 40-60% cpu and normally takes between 10 mins and 90 mins to finally shutdown.
I suspect that the two are connected and I suspect that it is some kind of server connection that is not being actioned timely.
I have counted than in all my starts I have only ever had 6 immediate shutdowns. The average time is 20 mins.
Yes I can terminate the process, but I shouldn’t have to.
Same here on Steam version but I had not thought of leaving it for that long so not sure if mine would eventually Close or not by itself.
I do not have the exe running in task manager but I have to Quit Steam for it to close the game if I want to start it again otherwise nothing happens when I try to open the game again.
Also pressing STOP on the game in Steam (as I can see it still thinks it’s playing) does not work.
It used to shut ok (normally) so I suspect it is some mod I’ve enabled.
I did think that it might be caused by a mod but I have very little that I have added into 2024 so far, and only aircraft and scenery.
A friend of mine says that his loading language takes only seconds and his always shuts down immediately. This is what makes me think that the two are connected and it is a server connection that is the problem, although logically it wouldn’t seem that the two would be accessing and storing the same data. I mean why would you be saving any language.

Yes, in the past it was closing after few seconds (before Sim Update 1). Today with Sim Update 1 insider version, it got stuck and I had to kill the executable. I am using MS store version
