Sim Skunk Works Leonardo (SIAI Marchetti) SF-260 AM

hello,
a better investigation of the sounds has identified the problem of the bad loop in the internal sounds of the engine that occurs mainly using stereo headphones.
The problem is the stereo channels we used to make sound samples.
While waiting for the sounds to be reviewed and inserted in the next version can help activate the flag that converts the sounds from stereo to mono:
GENERAL OPTIONS ==> SOUND ==>CONVERT AUDIO TO MONO
and also probably put on OFF
HEADPHONE SIMULATION
apologize for the inconvenience

This sneaked it’s way onto Orbx Direct. Under Ā£24. And today I am back from 2 weeks away from the Sim PC, so guess I’ll be diving into this now as promised and fly with my fingers crossed in hope for my Ferrari liveries from @Archer374 :crossed_fingers:

@PaternalSmile51 It hurts me to write this but overall I am pretty disappointed with it at the moment

I’ve been really rooting for this aircraft and wanted to love it (I have been very excited all the way through this thread) but I think it needs more love put in to it. It is unfortunate that the Comanche has come out because it really does some things way better than many native aircraft (especially ground handling) so this may be a bit unfair but some things here that I am really not getting on with.

I hope it is just something I am doing wrong and would be very grateful for any advice if that may be the case, so let’s see.

Firstly the modelling and graphics are excellent, no complaint there in the slightest. Top quality.

  1. The main thing for me is after touchdown, it is very unstable. Just using small inputs on rudder to keep straight and a rear wheel will lift up one side, then rudder the other way and it swaps to the other rear wheel cocking up. When a wing lifts, I push the stick SLIGHLTY to keep it level and it just flops to the other side lifting the other rear wheel, basically bouncing down the runway on the prop and on 2 wheels (at least prop damage bending is not modelled  ). Feels like the Centre of Gravity is far too high. It’s pretty much impossible to keep it down on all wheels, no matter what I tried, until the speed is under around 30kts. Then when taxiing as soon as the speed gets slightly too high it wants to drop a wing again and SLIGHT correction on the stick makes it go to the other wing down far too quickly like it has no weight at all.

  2. It flies quite nice but does some unusual things in aerobatics moves sometimes. For instance doing an aileron roll, it turns fairly quick until it’s inverted but then sometimes gets ā€œstuckā€ inverted. Seems to happen every time if you start the roll with slight nose-down attitude but it has a consistent roll rate with a similar (5-10 degrees) nose up attitude if you start the move that way. Can repeat this at the same speed and wind conditions (even though I am going fast enough for the wind to not greatly affect the manoeuvre I think) and sometimes it snaps back out of the inversion twice as fast as the first 180 degrees of the roll move.

  3. As has been mentioned above, the engine audio is very noticeably looping. For me it’s at any and all RPM’s. It’s at a rate of like 3 loops per second which sounds very unnatural indeed. I tried forcing stereo to mono but it makes no difference.

I think point 2 may well be me not handling the aircraft correctly but I have not had similar issue in other aerobatic aircraft (I have a few lol). Really think point 1 and 3 need some critical improvements though :frowning:

EDIT: I tried a few more times again and had a bit better control this time but it’s still really on the edge. I made some videos so will upload them and show.

For 1. I haven’t flown the plane yet (Installed but not flown yet), but I’ve experienced something similar to this in a Warrior when I have the trim too nose up. Try a little more nose down trim.

  1. The closest I’ve come to aerobatic flying is one lesson in spin training. So I ain’t gonna not be no help here. (three no’s makes a no, right? like emphatically so…)

  2. The dev already figured out what the problem with the looping is (sounds like a stereo phasing issue introduced while mastering, but he didn’t say that directly) and posted a temporary fix until they can get it fixed and updated.

  1. OK will try that - using my SideWinder stick so it’s quite loose around the centre which makes me normally naturally adjust for small amounts of trim without actually using trim (I can’t fly hands-off coz it loses ALL centering then!) but I hear ya and will try

  2. I think I know what you mean! Sounded good anyway

  3. It’s not phasing, it’s literally cutting and replaying the same sound multiple times a second (2 to 3.5 depending on revs I guess). If the temporary fix you meant is the mono thing, then that isn’t changing anything.

Read his explanation up above. He said it had something to do with their stereo processing, and it’s fixed by switching to mono, which says to me, a phase issue… I dunno, it’s just what he said… a fix is coming in any event.

So just picked up the plane. Haven’t flown it yet..

I notice there are two panels, an ā€œxboxā€ panel and a ā€œwasmā€ panel, which says it’s ā€œPC Optimizedā€.
I’m on PC. Should I make all my models ā€œwasmā€? Why have both?

For ATC, I’d suggest for the time being

atc_type ="TT:ATCCOM.ATC_NAME SIAIMARCHETTI.0.text"
atc_model ="TT:ATCCOM.AC_MODEL F26T.0.text"

Granted the F26T is the SF-260T turboprop model, but, the text for it is Siai Marchetti, so it doesn’t matter.

Which then technically means that will come out as Siai Marchetti Siai Marchetti from ATC if they say manufacturer and model. I think normally they just say the model, though.

I think defining the text for atc_type and atc_model in the local localization files is basically broken. A workaround has been described in devsupport, but, I don’t understand it fully.

As always, icao type indicators are pretty specific…
If you’re gonna use Aermacchi as the manufacturer, then model should be SF-260E or SF-260F or SF-260T, not SF-260. Otherwise manufacturer should be SIAI-MARCHETTI for SF-260 (or TAI). I don’t know if it matters, but, I don’t know why Asobo would put the information in there if they didn’t want it to match the icao info

Always thought this was a supremely cool plane – remember when Jane’s Combat Aircraft was sponsoring one? Back when EA did flight sims?

Going to pick this up, but I think I’ll wait for the sound patch as my hangar is full of lightly used new planes right now and it sounds like the patch will bring some nice improvements.

I mean, if you’re going to compare aircraft to the Comanche, you might as well stop buying new ones until A2A releases their next plane…

thanks for the answer, I just wanted to clarify that the first take-off test had taken place with a particularly light aircraft: empty tips, only half the fuel in the main tanks and the only pilot on board. By repeating the test with all tanks full but without a co-pilot, the reported bugs were still present but less pronounced. But of such amplitude as to make take-off difficult. Upon landing, the ā€œfloatingā€ is present but less noticeable, but the maneuver is not very ā€œelegantā€. As the product is very good and a joy to fly I hope the new version is released soon.
Good work

Anyone else having issues in VR where if you click any given switch the screen goes black for 15 seconds? Could be a config issue with my VR setup, but this aircraft is the only one that does this for me. Just curious if any one else is seeing the same thing?

i’ll wait also for the sound patch, but my guess is it will take longer.
Yesterday i did a real flight with my sf-260 guy, after the flight i talked with him about my sim experience and that this plane finally arrived in the sim.
He said now it makes sense, seems like somebody contacted him to get free sound samples ^^

I made a little video, doing some stunt flying over EGNX East Midlands airport.

And here is example of one of my best effort landings. @FlyingsCool5650 have a gander, and read the description  What do you think? How are you getting on with it?

I’ve made one landing where it didn’t do this so perhaps it’s the wind / direction but something seems really off with it. It’s way trickier than even the Bf-109 on the runway.

I’m not comparing really, just something I can’t fathom with this one. If anything I am comparing with other aircraft I have in MSFS that I don’t struggle this bad with for take-offs and landing. And the sounds  that can be done better. There is no change in sound from 50% up to 100% throttle, is that right?

It’s a very different purpose to the Comanche anyway so that won’t stop me buying more planes lol.

But yes I do think the Comanche will have saved me some money for that type of plane! I cancelled my idea to get the C162 Skycatcher hehe

Has anyone been able to get rid of the copilot? Manipulating the weights doesn’t seem to make the model go away.

NVM - clicking the door latches hides the models.

do you have any idea when it will be released on the microsoft marketstore and Xbox?

Hello, probable will be released thur august 24

Apart from the few bugs listed above - Can you double check 2 things?

  1. Flight Model > Specifically use of the rudder. Full deflection left or right will cause the aircraft to roll - doesnt seem right?

  2. The aircraft model scale - Either the aircraft itself is a little too big or the pilots are a little too small. I didnt have as much shoulder room inside it - only a small tweak is needed (if possible)

Looking forward to the update to give this plane another spin

  1. Pretty normal, pressing the rudder pedal will produce yaw in the direction of the depressed rudder pedal but will also produce some roll. This roll results from the wing opposite the depressed rudder side traveling through the air slightly faster than the other wing creating more lift, moreover rudder vertical fin has a small arm in the roll axis, thus causing also a rolling moment.
  2. Pretty sure the model is correctly scaled, pilot body may be underscaled, will check it.

Hi,
I would like to get the paint kit, but after several emails sent to the help-desk I am still without answer. Is it normal?

Best regards
