The sim updated automatically through the Xbox app but, when I start it it reaches the Checking for Updates parts of the start up and remains there.
Waited up to 40 mins for it finish before stopped it
I have tried restarting the sim in safe mode, but it still stops there.
I checked for windows updates and updates in the Microsoft store.
I tried the work around when disconnecting from network to force the loading to move on. The sim loads to the main menu but the Store and Content Manager do not load.
I renamed my Community Folder, and the sim created a new one on the following startup.
Recommend you disable all the Community Addons, then launch MSFS and then try to update the Content. This the workaround I had to do. Turn on your Community Addons after the content has been updated
I am having the same problem. Steam edition. I have cleaned out my community folder, updated drivers, rebooted modem, rebooted PC several times, soft uninstalled the Steam edition (several times) all to no avail. I am pretty frustrated. I did a complete re-install in December and would prefer not to do that again.
MSFS UPDATE/INSTALL
===================
-> CHECK WIN10 ist UP-TO-DATE
-> CLOSE ALL Sim-Tools (tray) like Simlink, FBW, Navigraph, Volanta etc.
-> RENAME COMMUNITY folder "_community" for example
-> CHECK MS APPSTORE library for updates
-----
-> START SIM
-> CHECK Content Manager Updates available
-> CHECK MARKETPLACE Updates/Freestuff available (World Updates have to downloaded here)
-> DELETE ROLLING CACHE (if activated, to clear old stuff)
-> CLOSE SIM, rename COMMUNITY folder back to normal "community"
-----
-> START SIM, CLOSE
-> UPDATE COMPLETE :-)
“so after several Testing, i have found out, if you have 1025 Items in your Official OneStore Folder, no Problem, Sim is loading fine, if you have 1026 Items in this Folder, peng, infinite Loading Screen”
Move the Community and Official folders outside of the main folder.
Went in to the Xbox app, under manage for MSFS I chose to Verify and Repair.
Started the sim and it Prompted to reinstall the core, deluxe and premium packages. BUT before clicking install…
I moved the Community and Official folders back to their original location THEN I clicked install.
It was a 128 GB download of the core, deluxe and premium packages but it was fine because that would only take me several hours to download. I have over 1 TB of content overall which would have taken me a couple of days so I’ll settle for the 128 GB download.
Afterwards the sim start up properly but did not detect the Official and Community folders. So I restarted the sim and it detected the original folder this time.
All that was left was the remaining updates for the SU12
Local content is not the reason. I have 700 items on Community folder and also have the issue. On the other hand I have 1300 items in Official folder and game launched yesterday (at least a couple of times) after multiple retries and today it doesn´t.
The error stays on the client to server communication that randomly gets stuck and the client has no programmed exit in source code from that situation when no response arrives from server (e.g: a timeout) to give client the latest official packages versions. With the same local content installed sometimes game passes the updating screen in just 5 seconds but most of the time stays there forever.
It´s a bug existing since last spring (so 1 year ago) and now with SU12 they put the cherry on top to make it even worse. Result: game does not launch at all. See how forum is full of posts about this issue happening worldwide to multiple users, even on vanilla setups with no addons. But you can find them at reddit and other webs as well, not only here.
Wait for the next online services outage and you will see how game launches normally in one go whenever the outage exists or alternatively unplug network to force a reset of online services, wait some seconds and plug it again and game will also continue loading normally.
I made some tests and I can confirm the problem with the amount of items to be the reason for the update loop bug. I have just contributed to your bug report. It seems we have found a limitation in SU12, and it´s a serious one indeed as the game won´t load at all
I just now got the exact same issue: I’m on XBox Series X. Tried restarting several times but still get stuck on the checking for updates screen. If I ESC out onto the XBox home screen and switch back to the sim then it continues but gets stuck toward the end (blue progress bar on the bottom at 100%) again.
I get stuck on the checking for updates as well.. Annoying because with nothing in the community folder it works. with just my scenery addons enabled it works, with just my airplane addons it works… but both? nope!
Real head scratcher - 859 in the Onestore folder, 1010 in the community. This issue just started for me with the latest update too.
I have the same issue - but checking the resources, the community folder isn’t even accessed so I know it’s not mods. For me, it’s a network issue - disabling my network instantly stops the endless “checking for updates” then I reconnect (it asks me where my packages folder is) .
My community folder is empty, installed LFTZ La Mole (Stairport/AS) from marketplace yesterday and got into the “CHECKING FOR UPDATES” loop. So I deleted the scenery from the official/onestore folder and the sim started normal again.
Today, I just tried it again and this time there were no problems with LFTZ. So I decided to install some of the other remaining sceneries and guess what - back in the loop again. Once I delete todays installs, the sim starts normal.
We need more information during “checking for updates” to identify what’s going on - or a way to skip this screen at all.
I’m just gonna say, the fact that an automatic timeout wasn’t programed into a … wait for it… checking for updates screen. Is just mind blowing. You HAVE to assume that checking for updates might hang for any reason, but in that case you want to get the user into the program. I can’t explain as a novice programmer who knows this, how insanely frustrating it is that this is even allowed to happen.
