So after reinstalling the game I was basically running into MSFS “Not Responding” in the 75-80% range.
Total reinstall later… same thing.
HOWEVER, I let it run, and walked away, came back 10-15 minutes later and it managed to make it to the main menu… in offline mode.
Re-enabled online mode and started to go through some of the general settings I could remember I would have had set previously, closed the game normally.
Re-launched.
Same thing.
Goes to 75-80% “Not Responding”
Decided to time it this time, and I’ve done it about 3 times now at which point I decided to stop wasting my time on it.
Sim: reaches 75-80% at which point Task Manager states “Not Responding,” CPU doing nothing, RAM doing nothing, GPU doing nothing, Network doing nothing…
~ 5 minutes later the sim finally makes its way into the main menu.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
I have the same issue and have since Friday. My session starts and crashes on load. Yesterday I uninstalled and re-installed. I re-enabled the online functionality and re-downloaded all of the updates. Came back several hours later and the sim was no longer up. I fired it up and I was back to CTD on the load just following the logos.
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
The only time I could get past the load was when the online access happened to be turned off. I suspect this was just a lucky result of my having fired up the game when the services were down. When they are up and I have it enabled, I can not get past a load, and once that happens I have no way of turning it back off. So I’m just hoping this is all online services issues that will get ironed out.

I had a similar issue with similar specs. It was working last night but didn’t work this morning as described by the original poster. I seem to have fixed it by going to Control Panel > Apps > then find the Xbox apps, Gaming Services, Flight Simulator, click on Advanced Options for each (where available) and click Reset. When I did this, the simulator loads. It took me to an Accessibility Options screen to which I clicked Next and now it’s doing a 123GB download!
Did you have to re-download and reinstall Flight Simulator and are you able play it? It usually takes 12 to 14 hours for my computer to install the game. I would do that if there was a guarantee that it would resolve the issue, but I have heard from many people that reinstalling it does nothing to resolve the issue.
I am glad that that worked for you. Not much luck for me. The first thing I did after I started to experience the CTD issue was upgrade the graphics driver, but it didn’t resolve the issue. It sucks there is no universal solution to this.
I think the reason it did the download is because I’d just moved it from my C drive SSD to a new 1TB H drive SSD (it was getting too big for the C drive). I hadn’t edited the config file UserCfg.opt to tell it the new location. However, it finished downloading to C and I’ve used it today ok.
Same here, just done a full reinstall, as well as deleting all msfs folders from steamapps, and appdata beforehand, so full clean install, latest drivers, and it still gets CTD on start up (the loading bar screen). not sure what else can be done other than wait for update?! also followed the official start up issues guide, nothing worked
Posting in here to track as well.
Same issue on a fresh vanilla install.
~80% load in, locks up, and over extended periods may or may not load into main menu.
No crashing on my end though; which… also means no tracking of what the hiccup is.
On the latest version of W10, latest Nvidia drivers, on an NVME, 64gb ram.
As others have mentioned; gets to around 80%, goes unresponsive, CPU, RAM, Drives, all go into idle and … don’t seem to go anywhere.
I’ve seen it load into menu once or twice, but… out of 10+ launches I wouldn’t call that a high success rate. EVERY launch has locked up at that 80% though.
Update on my situation: I managed to get the game running without any CTD. However it came with a cost which was my fault. Long story short, I accidentally restored my PC back to factory settings and reinstalled the game and it works perfectly even with all of the mods and third-party apps. What caused the game to CTD is still a mystery to me.
I was just having an issue where launching the game (steam version) would open a black window (as normal) that would then crash moments later with no processes running. The solution to get it working again was to uninstall the latest windows update. The game loaded fine thereafter. Hope this helps someone.
