Sim won't start...loading screen stuck with blue bar at 100%

Hi everyone, after the latest update, I am stuck at the loading screen. The blue bar goes - very slowly - till the end but nothing happens. I’ve run the troubleshooting suggested by Microsoft and my last shot is to reinstall the sim. However, before doing that, I would like to know if there is a way to save my settings regarding graphics and commands. Thanks

Hello!

Your topic has been moved into the Tech Talk category for further assistance.

The Bug Reporting category is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce using the provided template without duplication of an existing report.

During loading game is rebuilding scenery indexes, indexing simobjects and compiling cockpit gauges and content scripts. Whenever existing content is updated by patches or new content is added (e.g: world updates) this needs to be run. The first time this happens after a full fresh install it can take really long time (several minutes or even 1 hour) and it may appear as if game is freezing but it´s not indeed, as files are being created/updated in the background at AppData user folders.

After latest SU13 game patch appears to do this process at least during the first two runs, as I have seen game updates scenery indexes creation time/date two times, even if I already had those index files in my disk as a result of the first run. After that it´s checking for content manager updates to present them to you once you are at main menu and you load content manager screen, that´s why it appears to be freezing on 100% loading too.

The loading process is not optimal at all due to the combination of those steps. Don´t reinstall game because it will still do this process anyway, so you will simply lose time by doing so. There´s nothing wrong with your local installation. Game simply works like this now. You just need to let it load completely, even if it takes hours to finish. After that game would load normally.

Cheers

Your settings (including those you mention) are kept in the cloud, and you will be given the option to use them if you reinstall.
In your files, (if you did not install to a custom location) you can copy and save this folder if you want to make doubly sure you don’t lose them.
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\Helium
After the installation is complete and you start the sim, if your settings are not there, you can put this folder back and overwrite the new install.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried to wait several hours but nothing changes, I’m still stuck on the loading page. :weary:

Thanks for your reply.
I’ve checked the Helium folder but I found it completely empty

My braindead body typed in the wrong folder.
It is the wgs folder, not the Helium.
My apologies!

When this happens I’ve found the only way to fix it for me is to shut off my internet connection completely. After 30 seconds or so it loads into the main menu, every time. Then can turn my internet back on. Otherwise like you said it will sit at 100% indefinitely.

Mine is stuck on the Dune loading screen. . . If I re-install the whole thing it works fine again for a while… then stuck on the loading screen.,…

I have tried the usual fixes… any suggestions please … I really do not want to have to reinstall the whole thing again.

thanks

Hello, I have the same issue with my game. The FS support does not help at all and the tips found on this page does not help at all:

146852: Stuck Loading on Blue Bar [SOLVED] ==> NOT SOLVED

I got disconnected from my Xbox account during the update verification then it goes back and the loading bar stuck at 100%.

Did you try logging out of the xbox app, and then logging back in?

Hi, Yes just tried that a couple of times… :slightly_frowning_face:

This is the first in a series of Support checklists.
Links to the others are at the end of this list:

Hello all. I have the same issue as the topic above. It is on the Dune loading screen when you first launch the game. The bar is stuck at 100% and the simulator is not continuing to the menu. It is not a case of waiting for it to load, it simply will not go to the menu. I have the steam edition of the game. Any help would be appreciated because it is unplayable at the moment.

Hello everyone. I have become a victim of this issue after the update that was released yesterday. Prior to yesterday, I had no issue. First load after the update, I never get past the loading screen to the main menu. I even let it sit over night.

I have tried everything I can find on this post, and other:

Rebooting
Syncing settings with Microsoft Account
Tried logging in and out of both Microsoft and Xbox applications.
Tried deleting the contents of the wgs folder from SystemAppData to force re-syncing with cloud
Running the Gaming Services Repair Tool
Resetting the Store
Updating the Xbox and Gaming Services apps
Updating Windows
Synchronizing Time and Region Settings
Uninstalled and reinstalled the Xbox app
No Firewall changes
Restore the Sim to vanilla state - even crashed the sim on load and tried loading it in safe mode.
Sim is installed on an SSD.

Again, I had no issue running the sim at all before yesterdays update.
I made no changes to my system or any addons at all whatsoever between sessions.

I even tried disconnecting the internet while it was loading as one user suggested in this post. I am honestly lost.

Any recommendations welcome.

Yes, strange. I had it allmost every day until SU15. Then until the May 30th update I had no problems with SU15 and yesterday after that new small update (which kind of update was it?) I again had the issue with the sim stuck on loading screen / freezing at 100% loading bar before the main menu.

This is still an ongoing issue for me and has made the game unplayable. I am wondering whether a third party addon is conflicting with the sim? It’s hard to tell. I have not had any success fixing the issue.

For those having issues with loading process take into account that after any update game needs to do the following after update is applied (more things happen, but those are not so critical), and it will keep doing it until it succeeds because some addons were updated by the patch:

  1. Rebuild new scenery indexes here:
    \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes

  2. Update new simobjects here:
    \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SimObjects

  3. Compile new addon scripts here:
    \AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\packages

  4. Stablish connection with SimConnect related apps (e.g: GSX)

  5. Check for Content Manager updates short before loading main menu to present to you the “update available” notification afterwards. This is similar to the “checking for updates” step seen after game launch, while the later just involves core files being updated by SUs and the former involves all Marketplace addons.

So if you kill the process, restet game or do anything else than waiting it will not succeed to complete those processes and it will keep trying to do it upon next launches. You will just postpone the problem.

Some comments from my side, as I have suffered this issue for months in the past:

  • Observe the folder contents in 1, 2 and 3. Sort by date and in case you see files being recently updated then process is ongoing and you simply have to wait. There´s no way to escape from that step at all.

  • The first task is by far the one taking longer. A complete rebuild (in case all those indexes were deleted after a clean reinstall for instance) can take even few hours if you have “thousands” addon folders. Remember that official content also counts here, so the more new content is added by MS/Asobo after patches the longer the process will take. As of today just official content alone means around 800 folders, so imagine. This is therefore an increasing problem over the life of game while content and config files are still local at player´s system. A rebuild after a SU can easily take even 15-30 min, depending on the amount of addons updated by the SU.

  • The fourth may, in rare situations, hang but usually takes time and completes by itself after some minutes. In case it hangs you can simply close the external apps which are running and that use SimConnect (e.g: GSX or Littlenavmap)

  • The last is an ancient server side issue. It can take a lot as well and game can even hang forever there before displaying menu. Take into account that a third update check happens when you finish a flight and game returns to main menu. It´s also a Content Manager check and game can hang there as well. This is claimed to be fixed but I have still faced the “checking for updates loop” issue from time to time. Other users have also reported it recently so it´s not fixed completely I would say. However the problem is not so frequent now as it was before, that´s true.

Cheers

Thanks for the long explaination. I am worried because I have left the simulator for hours and even overnight and I am still having the same issue. I am not running that many add-ons, so none of it is making too much sense. Task manager is displaying 0% disk but still a load on the CPU RAM and GPU. I will leave it running again and report back.

Then it´s clear that all local config files were updated. I´m afraid you are then facing the “checking for updates” loop (point 5) and it´s hanging there forever. Unfortunatelly this is the worst case as there´s not so much you can do (that´s the server side problem). If disconnecting network or killing process and launching it again does not bypass that step you unfortunatelly came to a dead end. At least I don´t know any other way to bypass that step.

This step is mandatory and it´s part of the code. It could have a timer or something similar that expires in case the step fails after some attempts but it seems they didn´t allow that in the code for wathever reason, so it stays there forever waiting for server to send to client the required data (the latest versions of the addon packages).

I hope you are lucky and can solve it. The problem was random in the past so after several attempts you may bypass it… Other option to try is to reduce amount of addon folders so that they are below 1024. If I´m not wrong that was reported in the past to be the limit triggering the issue and I was able to check that it was true at that time. But nowadays I have around 2000 folders (Official + Community) and I have just seen the issue only few times since SU14.

Good luck!

Cheers
