SimVenture Oshkosh 2021 (Day 1 of 4) - Fly to OSH with Actual Oshkosh ATC

PilotEdge is proud to present SimVenture Oshkosh 2021 which will emulate the flight procedures associated with EAA’s famous AirVenture and allow pilots to fly into Oshkosh, with actual Oshkosh air traffic controllers, using a flight simulator.

Each year, over 10,000 aircraft flock to Oshkosh, Wisconsin’s Wittman Regional Airport for EAA’s AirVenture event. In order for Oshkosh’s airport to accommodate such an influx of air traffic throughout the week, EAA works closely with the FAA and the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) to publish specific VFR arrival and departure procedures which pilots are required to follow.

These specific VFR procedures are published in a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) and require pilots to conduct non-standard approaches and maneuvers into and out of the airport, while listening to fast-paced air traffic control and flying closer to other aircraft than most pilots have ever flown before.

PilotEdge’s SimVenture event will mirror EAA’s actual AirVenture event thus giving pilots an incredibly realistic experience of flying into and out of Oshkosh using the real NOTAM procedures.2021-07-14T22:00:00Z2021-07-15T02:00:00Z

Does this actually occur on July 14th in real life? I drive semi-truck to deliver groceries to gas stations in Oshkosh every Thursday. I live in Indiana and it is about a 7hr drive to get there. It would sure be a treat to get to see this happening as I am driving into town and watching them as I am working unloading. Thanks for sharing this!

EDIT If I had read the last sentence I could have answered my own question. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if I can spot any of these landings while I am working up there.

The real AirVenture is about a week later. We hold it ahead of time so pilots can prepare for the real thing(because it’s that realistic)!

Oh ok got you. I guess I didn’t answer my own question. Unfortunately I am on vacation the week after the online event so I won’t be able to witness the real world event. Actually I won’t be able to witness the virtual event either :frowning: Bad timing for vacation I suppose but I sure am ready for it!

@KevPilotEdge is there any discord or will I be automatically connected to the ATC servers after joining pilotsedge ?

It’s much more realistic than discord comms.

I was able to snap a picture of the sign up in Oshkosh
