That may be the case but it doesn’t read like that.Anyway ,im waiting for several reviews, not just 1 or 2.
Well, I’m all for a DC-9. From what I read, the clipboard is the 60’s version of the EFB. You can flip the pages and see the loadout, flightplan(simbrief compatible), take-off calculations, etc.
One thing I’m not sure about is how the NAV works. Is it GPS, INS, VOR?
I’ll be keeping my eyes on this one!!
Well, that was a waste of money.
It looks ok.
It starts up ok - the APU powers up a little fast.
It taxis ok.
But everything else? awful.
So called" real pilot" tries to fly it on stream and yet has no idea on what to do…plus the plane flies like ■■■…brutal!
It was really a poor stream by V1, he really had no idea about the plane so it would be difficult for the public to distinguish plane bugs from user errors.
Care to elaborate? Flight model, performance, bugs? Super unhelpful to just say “yuck” without explaining why.
I mean there were some really glaring problems starting from reversed switches, weird AP behaviour, engines straight up shutting down mid-flight, an APU that can’t be switched off, and many many others.
You can’t really blame it on “skill issue”.
It’s a bad plane and clearly not worth the price.
Captain sim qaulity with a PMDG price…
Many switches are backwards, even on 2020. It manages to have too much thrust and too little thrust at the same time, which results in you often struggling to get away from the trim stops. There’s a variety of bugs with the switches where they don’t move when they should.
The engines dying in the video was a skill issue though, he had his fuel pump config all wrong.
Thanks for the additional info. Hopefully they’ll continue to update it to fix these issues.
Have they ever updated the MD-11? That is a good datapoint to consider.
It is released. Just Flight - Sky Simulations McDonnell Douglas DC-9 (MSFS)
I had to install it twice to be sucessful
Oh, and the camera system is all screwy with it, quickview left ends up looking to the right and back of the cockpit.
Thanks for comments.Looks a none starter in the medium term at least.
I think it’s a bit hasty to pass judgement based on a couple of streams by guys totally unfamiliar with the DC-9 (I would’ve thought it common knowledge that the DC-9 was WAY before the late-seventies/early-eighties, for instance).
Sure, there appear to be a few annoying bugs but, fundamentally, it all seems okay (as in, relatively easy fixes for what’s wrong). We ideally need the input of a DC-9 pilot or, as a second-best, an MD-80 captain.
There is always some sort of ritual within the MSFS community to pummel a brand new aircraft before anyone’s even got their hands on it. Jonathan Beckett’s stream seemed pretty fair and objective but he’s not a real pilot and he did state that the airliner’s got potential. The engine cut-out is a perfect example of how a fairly accurate part of the simulation can quickly snowball into a perceived fault that causes simmers to avoid the product like the plague.
I’m not suggesting this DC-9 is 100% worth its PMDG-like asking price but I do think we should wait before piling in to slam it as useless and unrealistic. To be honest, I quite like what I’ve seen so far and if the dev can iron it all out, they’ll certainly pique my interest.
It would be ideal a test from the youtuber , real pilot and pmdg member A330 driver but yes… the max is a real dc 9 pilot ,)
The issue is, the DC-9 is nothing like the 737NGs and A330. Those are third/fourth-gen jet airliners, far removed from the early classics such as the DC-9-10/15/20/30 — so someone like A330Driver may well struggle equally with some of the systems (although you’d expect him to have a better idea than non-pilots).
The reality is, the vast majority of simmers don’t have real-world experience with airliners (myself included). Even those with real-world GA experience aren’t properly qualified to put the DC-9 through its paces. For most of us, it’s about what feels right. Of course there are instances in which we can almost immediately sense something is off, based on a reasonable comprehension of physics/aerodynamics.
But in a nutshell, yes — I’d put more faith in an A330Driver review (no disrespect towards those YouTubers who do their utmost without being actual pilots).
The good news is they have the paint kits available already for this aircraft on their website
