Lately I tend to read about the places I fly over.
On one of our Flights to Oz we took part in Yoga Classes and there was Face painting for the Kids.
I fly long haul on rainy weekend. In cruise altitude to pass the time I drink coffee, prepare the arrival, monitor the instruments, drink a whisky, read books and doze off. The goal his to have several hour to relax. Because the rest of the week I work a lot with a lot of stress.
I do all the time.
Yay, one other sensible person in the whole world.
For the past week, I’ve been flying back and forth to and from Hawaii from the U.S. I’m currently using the new custom/experimental A320 FBW mod and it’s pretty great I must say. For a while I avoided flying any long haul flights and in this case flights to Hawaii since they’re at least 5 hours (from the U.S. west coast). However, I finally decided I wanted to fly to Hawaii.
While yes, there’s a lot of downtime during cruise, I actually don’t mind it because it allows me to get other stuff done that I need to do. Before, I had been flying a lot of short-medium haul flights that were no more than 2.5-3 hours (occasionally over 3 hours). I found that I wasn’t able to get a lot of stuff done that I needed to because I was having to sit and monitor my flight to prepare for descent and arrival and not to step away and miss anything important.
So again, I’ve been able to do all kinds of things lately during my long, 5+ hour flights to Hawaii and back, but I’m still really enjoying the flights too. Maybe it’s not that realistic to step away for a few hours, I just have to time my arrival so I don’t miss it.
And now I really want to go to Hawaii IRL… lol ![]()
I don’t fly liners. I am doing a round the world trip. I started with the Xcub but sometime it is VERY long so now I mostly fly the TBM (and I take the Xcub when it is very interesting like Rio de Janeiro for instance). I think flying at 30 000 ft it not so nice for the view as you don’t really discover the world so whenever possible I fly at 2000 ft or less. When it is a bit boring I change the weather (put some bad weather) and try to fly manually in the clouds. If I take the Xcub I try to land in the shortest possible fields. But at the end if it is a long trip and it gets a bit boring, I put the AP and do something else for a while ![]()
