SU8 was definitely a good update. But still, the sim has it’s occasional light stutters(Using Airliners) which are annoying especially during takeoff and landing. Now, I’m not stating I’m getting lots of stutters, but they are still present as there is a hick up every once in a while.
So, will SU9 be 100% completely smooth? Man I sure hope so.
2 years in, you would think Asobo would have the sim completely stable by now, but it is what it is.
The sim s almost perfect for me right now.
Just hope they get rid of the stutters completely and also objects/tree pop ins.
Thing is that MSFS is a really complex thing based on the worst optimized sim available (FSX).
Surely the sim will run better but it’s already known that Asobo has to include more telemetry to fight long haul performance issues which is not in place yet. Another thing is DX12 and DLSS support which won’t be done in SU9.
After DX12 and DLSS we may get a quite stable and great performing sim - until then it will get better but it won’t be silk smooth and stable for everyone.
Stable (not crashing to desktop) for around 90% of all players across plattforms maybe. Nobody knows but there are many CTDs atm which may depend on different system configurations (AMD vs. Intel vs. Nvidia vs. ATI vs. different soundcards, controllers and everything else basically)
Are you on PC or Xbox? If PC, you can likely tweak your settings to get rid of that annoying stutter. If on Series X you may have to wait for Asobo to do their own settings adjustments.
Believe me, doesn’t matter what hardware you might have, nothing will make the sim run silky smooth 100% of the time. At least not with airliners.
Some have learned to live with it, but for me, it’s a huge annoyance. Now again, for me it runs 98% smooth with no stutters. But every once in a while, there is a stutter. It happens mostly when making sharp turns while taxiing, taking off, and right before landing.
It is just a personal annoyance that just bothers me every time I see it.

If you are having those stutters near airports, you can make a stutter free configuration while on the ground at an airport near a big city, while in your airliner of choice.
Your Terrain LOD and also your airplane ground traffic settings can eat up a lot of CPU which can cause spikes especially when at or near an airport.
You can confirm these CPU spikes are what is happening in the FPS viewer in Dev Mode. But stutters are almost always a taxed CPU core. CPU throttling stops the game. GPU throttling just lowers FPS.
I suspect the core thread is extra taxed when near ground because ground modeling must be prioritized at these times and it isn’t a priority when flying.
So, the goal on ground is to look in Dev Mode and adjust your LOD and Traffic sliders until the GPU is the primary bottleneck at all times.
It should quell almost all of the stutters. Although yeah, MSFS may never be 100% stutter free.
Not sure what to make of this. No update will ever be universally “the one” since everyone has different system combinations and specs.
For me, the sim has never been better than now in SU8, which has eliminated entirely any stutters or frame-drops in airliners - especially noticeable on final approach where I haven’t experienced any at all since SU8 but had previously been plagued by stutters and loss of fps on short final.
So while for some it may not have resolved all issues, for others there are precious few issues remaining. It completely depends on the individual situation and PC setup, that’s the reality, which means no update will ever universally be “the one” it seems.
Anyone finding downloading painfully slow. Started 21:00 ish last night. Ok the xbox did turn off but 17Gb at 35Mbps ? Line is 65Mbps and no processes are running
Same here. I have my FPS locked at 30FPS/60Hz and silky smooth everywhere, but yes strangely the odd stutter or two exactly as you describe when turning during taxiing. Its acceptable as generally smooth everywhere else, but mystifying nonetheless.
Even if SU9 were “the one”, when SU10 comes along it’s quite possible that things that worked may no longer. That’s no slight, just the reality of a sim undergoing development, and as they add things it sometimes breaks existing ones.
