SOLVED Altimeter displaying incorrect altitude on steam gauges

Ever since the latest update steam gauge altimeters display an altitude 30ft below the actual altitude on all 3 planes I’ve tested : DR400, DA40 (for steam gauge altimeter) and cessna 152. The glass cockpits do not have this bug and display the proper altitude (tested with the g3000 on the tbm and the g1000 on the DA40).

This is the case both when setting the barometer pressure to the QNH provided by the ATIS or just using the “B” key to set it automatically.

I have the steam version installed and have tested with and without mods in my community folder with no difference.

To reproduce : Spawn on LFMA QFU 32 at the threshold, press “B”, glass cockpits will display the correct altitude of 368ft ASL while steam gauge altimeters will consistently show the altitude as being 30ft below.

I have not posted the issue on Zendesk yet, I want to make sure first that I’m not the only one having the issue.

Try seeing if this is true, with weather set to CLEAR SKYS ( ie std Altimeter setting)

You are just about to open a Pandora’s Box with Altitude Settings, and Autopilots !!!

BTW Ref https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/atpubs/aip_html/part2_enr_section_1.7.html

3.1.3 If the difference from the known field elevation and the altitude read from the altimeter is plus or minus 75 feet or greater, the accuracy of the altimeter is questionable and the problem should be referred to an appropriately rated repair station for evaluation and possible correction.

so 30ft off is not that bad … Maybe MSFS is simulating Calibration errors !!!

I’m confused by where the problem is, all the screenshots provided of the steam gauge altimeters are indicating approximately 370 ASL, which is exactly in line with the glass displays.

Do you get this same 30ft offset when you select CLEAR SKY ??

I was just about to say the same thing. Those screenshots clearly show 370 feet on both glass and steam gauges?

Okay maybe I’im a total noob but shouldn’t the big needle be between the 6 and the seven?

  • long needle: hundreds
  • middle needle: thousands
  • stubby needle: ten-thousands

At 370 feet the long needle should be between the 3 and the 4, specifically seven-tenths between the 3 and the 4.

Remember also this is analog – those all represent the entire value so the thousands needle is also visibly moved a bit because you’re 37% through the first thousand.

Aw man I feel so stupid then… Disregard this post !

No worries! We all learn things the first time some time.

There’s no 7 for the small marks, there’s 2,4,6, and 8. The needle is between 6 and 8, which gives 370.

Edit: was too slow typing my reply lol. @Lunaticwraith no apologies needed, we all had to learn this somewhere .

I still feel stupid because I used to know this, habven’t played in a while and now here I am forgetting basic stuff…

Imagine what RW pilots are “Forgetting” as they are not flying during Covid !!
